Forklift Driver- Midnight Shift

Job Summary: Supply Welding department with containers to meet production requirements. Take welded material from Welding department to the next appropriate location.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • Must have valid Forklift certification
  • Minimum 3-4 years Forklift experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Must be able to read and write in English
  • Ability to follow well defined procedures
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to use computer inventory system and is able to use the scanner to scan inventory in and out; experience with CMS is an asset

Major Accountabilities:

  • Supply Weld cells/ stations with components, WIP and containers
  • Prioritize work load to ensure production line remains running
  • Manage WIP storage to ensure product is maintained based on priority of production
  • Transport Finished good product to Warehouse to be added into inventory
  • Take rejected parts/ or any products on hold to quarantine cage (as required) and scan to Q25
  • Add/ remove product as per scan to location procedure
  • Assist in the regular maintenance of the outside yard
  • Maintain and organize work area for a smooth and efficient workplace
  • Ensure the safe operation of forklift at all times; abide by safety training and regulations
  • Follow Scan to Location instructions for all product going to and from storage locations
  • Complete the necessary documentation; forklift checklist
  • Be able to mentor new forklift drivers and provide training if needed
  • Abide by all company polices including, but not limited to the following; Health and safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human resources policies, and Martinrea Employee Handbook
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c)).

Working Conditions:

  • 85% indoors plant floor (PPE required), 15% outdoors
  • Frequent requirement of handling heavy equipment (operation)
  • Frequent need to give concentrated attention to surroundings

Decision Making and Authority:

  • Decision Making:
  • Determine priority of machines to service based on production demands
  • On a functional basis this role has the following reporting relationships:
  • Indirectly reports to Area Leader
  • Recommendations:
  • Cleanliness of storage area
  • Material flow in the department and around the work centers
  • Safety, Quality and productivity * Quantitative Measurable:
  • Supply approximately 10 machines with WIP, containers and bins

Back-up Duties:

  • Perform other duties as required
