Job Summary / Responsibilities
Train clients (learners) using a systematic plan of lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, field work, shop sessions, field assignments and independent or group projects.
In Class
- Prepare students for MTO testing, including air brake and driving
- General safety training
- Teach relevant materials in compliance with curriculum
- Safe operating procedures, logbooks, and pre-trip inspection documents
- Keep a log of student’s hours in class and field
- Schedule students training hours and manage weekly intake within schedule
- Report schedule to Fanshawe’s Driver Training Service Team
- General safety training
- Maintain jobsite cleanliness and general organization
- Pre-start and inspection procedures
- Safe operation, including pre-trip inspection
- Provide driver training with students one-on-one
- Ensure a safe, clean, reliable training unit and pre-check units well in advance of training in order to have necessary repairs completed
- Schedule students to ensure they meet all learning requirements
- Provide office staff with relevant documents
- Prepare, administer and mark tests to evaluate students’ progress
- Work with Fanshawe’s Driver Training Service Team to schedule drive shifts with drive test facility
- Provide input into matters such as schedules, budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate requirements
- Minimum post-secondary qualifications, college diploma
- Possess a minimum 5-year recent driving history, with verifiable OTR tractor/trailer experience
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
- Current SA certification
- Valid Class A license with Z endorsement
- Satisfactory Drivers Abstract (zero demerit points) and CVOR
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Search
- Ability to work outdoors in climate weather conditions for extended periods
- Ability to apply principles and standard industry semi-truck and trailer practices specific to driving instruction
- Demonstrated experience with delivering instructional strategies and techniques of subject matter and course content
- Ability to monitor/document student performance, evaluate driving knowledge, and document training records
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office along with computer data-entry skills
- Adult Training/Teaching qualifications considered an asset
