The Tooling Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Tool Room at Marwood's Plant 2 & 3 locations. This role ensures tooling readiness to support stamping operations through effective planning, development, maintenance, and performance management. The role also oversees predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and facilitates collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.


Your Role and Responsibilities

Production Tooling Support

  • Schedule and coordinate Tool Room activities to meet all production tooling and equipment readiness targets.
  • Assign and monitor toolmaker tasks, ensuring alignment with production priorities.
  • Lead, manage, and hold team members accountable for performance.

Supplier and Subcontractor Oversight

  • Manage relationships with external tooling suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Monitor outsourced work to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Provide progress updates to the leadership team.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

  • Provide hands-on support for resolving die and press-related issues.
  • Actively participate in internal Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve equipment or process challenges.

Tooling Maintenance and Documentation

  • Develop and maintain predictive and preventive maintenance schedules for all production tooling.
  • Coordinate internal and outsourced maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotes for tooling repairs and spare part procurement.
  • Analyze maintenance data and report findings and opportunities to management.
  • Negotiate repair costs and approve external repair services when needed.
  • Maintain and update tool drawings and history via the work order system.
  • Authorize and manage corrective/preventive actions related to tooling non-conformances.

Team Development and Safety Integration

  • Support the ongoing training and development of Tool Room staff.
  • Assess training needs and ensure consistent communication of procedures and best practices.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to integrate safety and manufacturability into all new tool designs.
  • Ensure adherence to Marwood tooling standards and specifications.

Project and Launch Support

  • Recommend and validate tooling repairs based on quality and production needs.
  • Oversee subcontracted processes to ensure capability and repeatability.
  • Attend APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) meetings to support successful program launches.

Key Requirements:

  • Licensed Tool & Die Maker (recognized qualification).
  • 10+ years of experience in tooling, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in tool design, fabrication, and maintenance within a metal stamping environment.
  • Strong knowledge of metal stamping and general fabrication processes.
  • Skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proficient with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD) and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities, especially in-press problem solving.
