Reporting to the General Manager, the Health and Safety Business Partner, will be a responsible for managing High Park's Health, Safety & Environmental program including policies, programs and practices, in accordance with organizational health & safety standards and legal regulatory requirements. This will involve a proactive approach to health, safety and environmental protection in order to drive continuous improvement, and promote a positive safety culture across the site. This role will partner with other Health, Safety & Environmental professionals and collaborate to assist in the creation of programs, procedures and policies.
 
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide facility-wide coordination in all health, safety and environmental arenas including personal safety, safety system, compliance, safety training, and contractor safety as well as assisting in compliance strategies for global programs in collaboration with other Health, Safety & Environmental professionals, all levels of management, and in consultation with the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Provide technical assistance to the facility through formal risk assessment and development, implementation and maintenance of safe systems of work and to make recommendations for operational decisions with regard to capital expansion, and modification to existing operations to support continued compliance and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Responsible for reporting obligations as required by local, provincial, federal and corporate requirements and analyzing health and safety data in order to strengthen the Internal Responsibility System in the facility.
  • Responsible for multiple site supports with regular travel between London and Petrolia.
  • Assist and verify thorough pre-job planning for employees and contractors, including, but not limited to documented job safety analyses and procedures, pre-job hazard assessments.
  • Facilitate the training of personnel on Health, Safety and Environmental subjects and perform internal audits and assessments to ensure compliance by implementing new or existing programs.
  • Accountable for identifying, developing, and delivering the health & safety training requirements for the workforce based on legislative requirements and trend analysis.
  • Provide on-going support/participation to the Joint Health and Safety Committee ensuring the group is working interdependently towards the Health and Safety Program goals and objectives.
  • Maintain and monitor a system of incident investigations and workers compensation management for facility, providing guidance with regard to remedial action for accident prevention measures and guidance to reduce incidents of workers compensation claims.
  • Accountable for claims/case management requirements.
  • Accountable for management of ergonomic and industrial hygiene programs on site.
  • Ensure that the internal Health, Safety & Environmental practices of High Park Farms are reflective of current legislative standards and requirements, as well as organizational policies and philosophy
  • Monitor, continuously research and stay abreast of new and revised legislation, industry trends and best practices to make recommendations on keeping policies up to date and current
  • Lead the development of site specific Emergency Response Plans
  • Lead incident investigations using root cause analysis, documentation and standardized processes, and recommending/implementing effective correction and/or prevention measures
  • Develop health, safety and environmental communication plans and be responsible for ongoing communication of Health, Safety and Environmental Program status, changes, issues, challenges and metrics.
  • Facilitate, champion and promote a collective team approach to the reduction and or elimination of occupational health, safety and environmental risks across the organization
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Health, Safety and Environment to guide the site general manager
  • Assist in Global Health, Safety and Environment policy, program and procedure development.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years experience in a similar role with demonstrated knowledge of greenhouse, food, pharmaceutical or construction industry.
  • Professional certification in Health and Safety, a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or related technical field.
  • Certified Health and Safety Professional i.e. CRSP®/PSAC® or CSSE desiredStrong communication and interpersonal skills. Individual must be able to build strong relationships with both internal and external customers and participate effectively on cross-functional teams without direct supervisory responsibility of the teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in Health & Safety Program development and implementation of new or changing regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a strong attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of the OHSA and other related Health and Safety legislation
  • Prior development and training experience in Health, Safety and Environmental disciplines
  • Knowledge of environmental protection regulations and best practices
  • Ability to be the visible, trusted senior safety representative for health, safety and environment on site
  • Knowledge and practical experience in incident investigation and site inspections is required
  • Strong administrative, multi-tasking, time management, and planning and organizational skills
  • Strong computer proficiency, specifically using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Office etc.)
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as within a collaborative team setting
