Role Summary
Do you have a passion for materials and leadership? A desire to join an innovative and growing team of diverse individuals and one of the largest automotive companies in the world? Presstran is recruiting for an exciting and challenging role for an experienced Manager to join our Materials Team.
The Materials Manager will be responsible for leading the team in executing the division’s materials strategies. Tracking and reporting the department KPI to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness. Oversees and monitors all functions of the Materials Department ensuring that the scheduling of material receiving, production processing, and finished goods shipping meet customer requirements. The position carries direct/indirect supervisory responsibility for approximately 30-35 employees. The position is also responsible for overseeing the quoting and launch of new programs for Materials responsibilities utilizing the CPMP / APQP process.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
1.Completion of post-secondary education in a related field e.g. Materials Management and/or equivalent work related experience: Minimum 5-10 years leadership experience
2.Skill gained by experience: minimum 5 years material control experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
3. Must possess human relations skills and maturity of judgement.
4. Must possess time management, leadership, communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
5. CAPIC enrolment/completion and current membership would be considered a definite asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures that all customer requirements are met on time by managing all aspects of material flow and production.
- Participates in the development of the annual Business Plan.
- Develops department action plan to achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives in alignment with the Company’s Vision and Guiding Principles
- Ensures that all Materials related safety programs are up to date e.g., C-TPAT.
- Supports and models the Presstran Handbook and “How We Work Together”, Magna Employee’s Charter, Magna Corporate Constitution.
- Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes and equipment/machinery.
- Participates in manpower requirements planning, overtime scheduling, co-ordinating lay offs, and assists with capacity planning to meet future objectives.
- Co-ordinates daily activities within the Materials Department.
- Analyse, develop and deliver reports on current inventory levels.
- Develop and maintain customer and subcontractor partnerships.
- Ensure that PFEP and Plant Layout are up-to-date and always correct
- Prepares and monitors Materials Department budget.
Key Responsibilities Continued
- Coordinates, forecasts, and manages end of program requirements and all service part requirements.
- Assists in the development of procedures and methods which improve material controls/quality/productivity/cost to the materials/logistics operations.
- Ensures fairness to direct reports, and encourages and participates in the Open Door Resolution Process for employee relation issues
- Teach, coach and mentor direct reports for succession planning and enhancement of Leadership knowledge and skills.
- Effectively builds and fosters teamwork within the department.
- Supports other Area Leaders and Lead Hands in compliance with the Presstran Health and Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental program/procedures by:
- Participating in performing regular workplace inspections to assist with hazard identification,
- ensuring corrective actions are in place to address hazards,
- leading investigation for all incidents, near misses, property damage etc.
- providing employee training with TWI risk assessments, pre-use inspections, lock-out etc.
