Controller

The Controller is a key member of the BOS Management team and is responsible for providing financial leadership, expertise, and provide support/direction to the Senior Management team and other departments as required. The Controller will be responsible for managing the overall financial operations of BOS and provide accurate information to support executives and ownership, including analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparing financial reports and will be held accountable for directing and managing the Company’s accounting functions, banking, including establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures as well as the preparation of financial statements and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop & Lead Finance Team

  • Maintain a high-functioning finance team
  • Evaluate and implement best practices for finance processes and internal controls
  • Develop scalable, reliable processes to support a variety of businesses and ongoing growth
  • Foster an environment conductive to high performance, collaboration and engagement
  • Provide leadership to the team and oversee day-to-day effectiveness by managing for high-performance, including goal setting, coaching, mentoring, developing, training, and managing individual performance

Reporting

  • Maintain a robust and efficient financial reporting system producing accurate, comprehensive, and timely monthly reporting to enable the management team to operate effectively
  • Maintain robust and efficient financial & operational reporting, producing accurate, comprehensive, and timely metrics and reporting to enable the management team to operate effectively
  • Provide timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial trends and forecasts
  • Drive operational efficiencies and data integrity through systems integration and enhancing user knowledge

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place to manage risk in the areas of banking and cash management
  • Manage the annual audit process in an efficient manner
  • Codify credit policies, develop systemic approach to assessing credit risk and minimize loss experience

Forecasting & Strategic Planning

  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and reporting, and consolidation
  • Evaluate and advise on financial impact of long-range planning and the introduction of new programs/strategies
  • Prepare detailed financial models/analysis to assist with capital expenditure, acquisition and other management decision making
  • Interface with Managers and Sr. Management
  • Establish and maintain strong relationship with Sr. Management to identify their needs and seek to deliver a full range of business solutions
  • Drive strategic initiatives to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partner including financial institutions, auditors, insurance providers and others

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business required, CPA strongly preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing environment or other project costing area preferred.
  • Experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial planning, and analysis or other financial activities required
  • Experience participating in projects, supporting finance initiatives with the business, preferred.
  • Experience with transaction & reporting systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel user
  • Experience creating and accessing reports in Microsoft Power BI
  • Microsoft Dynamics – Business Central

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Proven knowledge of financial accounting standards and GAAP required.
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of different financial and analytical techniques preferred and the capability to plan own work and respect deadlines required.
  • Strong proven knowledge of cost accounting practices and financial accounting standards.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make judgments based on analysis of information, practice and previous experience/reasonable assumptions required.
  • Excellent interpersonal (written and verbal) communications skills with a demonstrated ability to work across functions & cultures and interact with all levels of the organization required.
  • Demonstrated ability of being a dynamic self-starter, to work independently and apply sound judgment to solve complex problems with incomplete and/or ambiguous information required and to proactively initiate action steps required.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects at once, work under pressure, apply judgment and ask for aid in prioritizing as applicable required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to resolve issues required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills required.
