Maintenance Supervisor

Introduction

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the repair, upkeep, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and assets ensuring that all the necessary installations, maintenance schedules, and system updates are completed on time. The successful candidate will work towards operational effectiveness and efficiency developing strategies to mitigate equipment issues and ultimately reduce equipment downtime. In addition to mechanical inclination, the successful candidate will be organized with excellent project management skills.

Position Overview
  • Perform maintenance management on all fronts by supervising maintenance staff and establishing priorities in maintenance schedules and tasks
  • Applies theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of operations, repair procedures, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance to support facility equipment reliability and minimize equipment downtime
  • Planning of shutdown work to maximize equipment utilization
  • Sourcing and managing contractors for all maintenance related activities as required
  • Oversee with project management of new equipment 
  • Oversees, improves upon, and implements a robust preventative maintenance system, working closely with operations staff
  • Develop and maintain all relevant equipment maintenance SOPs in conjunction with operation’s staff
  • Ensure CMMS system is maintained, updated and all PMs are tracked
  • Oversee all maintenance of the Security Systems
  • Oversees and maintains support and production equipment including air compressor, heaters, chillers, pumps, extractors, distillation equipment, and HVAC
  • Assists with general facility maintenance, internal and external to production areas 
  • Sets front-line performance standards providing coaching and feedback to build capability and improve performance of maintenance technicians 
  • Leads spare part management to ensure minimal downtime due to unplanned maintenance 
  • Other duties as assigned


People Management
  • Provide day-to-day oversight for direct reports 
  • Foster and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment to motivate staff
  • Identify, track and report on progress against organizational key performance goals
  • Identify and allocate resources (people and equipment) based on business & operational priorities
  • Identify and remove obstacles that prevent staff from accomplishing tasks
  • Provide continuous performance feedback for direct reports through regular one-on-one meetings and/or dept meetings
  • Conduct formal performance reviews for staff as per the schedule defined by Human Resources (2x per year)
  • Deliver Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and monitor accordingly
  • Actively participate in the recruitment process to grow the department when required
  • With support from HR, manage the offboarding (termination)


Qualifications
  • 3+ years demonstrated experience managing projects, coordinating contractors/vendors 
  • Related Degree/Diploma, and/or licensed trade an asset
  • Tech savvy – ability to write SOP’s, reports and using standard software (MS Office) 
  • Organized and process driven, ensuring proper and prompt documentation and attention to detail
  • 2+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, spare parts, risk mitigation, CMMS software, carpentry, and electrical systems
  • Strong planning, analytical, negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Superior problem-solving skills are a requirement to make sure all issues are resolved quickly and swiftly, thereby causing minimum stoppage in general operations.
  • Proven work experience leading and managing a team
