Hull Structures Specialist

Key Job Elements:

• Provide subject matter expert input into metallic designs by optimizing the design of weldments that produce quality solutions
• Execute full life cycle of weld design and development in accordance with Industrial codes
• Lead creation, testing, and validation of internal weld processes, specifications, qualification procedures, and standards
• Lead project statusing and planning activities on select tasks
• Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations into weld related problems
• Provide relevant subject matter expertise across the business to such departments as Program Administration, Supply Chain, Production, Support Services, and to external stakeholders such as Suppliers and Customers
• Demonstrated behavior and willingness to develop self and team. Act as a team technical mentor in all areas of weld
• Independently identify, propose, and lead continuous improvement initiatives related to welding specialty
• Perform damage assessment on welded structures, develop repair plans and support repair procedures

 Required Qualifications:

• University degree or college diploma in Mechanical/Welding Engineering
• Familiarity with North American Welding codes and specifications
• Applied knowledge of welding processes, material properties and selection as applicable to metallic structures
• Ability to perform weld size and strength calculations
• Superior oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
• Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space 

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical/welding designs of metallic components/structures
• Hands on welding experience or current welders' certification
• Knowledgeable in Siemens NX environment
• Work in a Unionized environment
