WeedMD Inc. is the publicly traded parent company of WeedMD RX Inc. and Starseed Medicinal Inc., federally licensed producers of cannabis products for both the medical and adult-use markets. The Company owns and operates a 158-acre state-of-the-art greenhouse, outdoor and processing facility located in Strathroy, Ontario as well as CX Industries Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary, which specializes in cannabis extraction from the Company’s fully-licensed 26,000 sq. ft. Aylmer, Ontario processing facility. With the addition of Starseed, a medical-centric operator based in Bowmanville, Ontario, WeedMD has expanded its multi-channeled distribution strategy. Starseed’s industry-first, exclusive partnership with LiUNA, the largest construction union in Canada, along with other employers and union groups complements WeedMD’s direct sales to medical patients. The Company maintains strategic relationships in the seniors’ market and supply agreements with Shoppers Drug Mart as well as six provincial distribution agencies where adult-use brands Color Cannabis and Saturday are sold.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of People, the Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for partnering with his/her designated business units and ensuring alignment between business objectives and HR programming and support. He/she takes a proactive approach and anticipates business needs by maintaining an effective level of business literacy and building and maintaining strong relationships with managers. The ideal candidate will have strong HR generalist experience, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills, along with comprehensive knowledge and experience in employment legislation.

Main Duties and Associated Tasks:

  • Consults with the leaders in assigned business groups, providing HR guidance and support
  • Conducts ongoing analysis to identify trends and root cause to proactively identify solutions for repetitive issues/escalations
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to managers and supervisors (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation
  • Develops contract terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individuals
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success and follows up to ensure that objectives were met
  • Assists with an employee’s return to work from STD, LTD and leave of absence cases
  • Leads various company-wide projects to elevate the company culture
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Must be able to work in Strathroy, Ontario

Education and Experience:

  • University degree in Human Resources, Business administration or related area of study
  • Minimum of 5 years of generalist HR experience, particularly around resolving complex employee relations issues
  • Working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and provincial employment laws
  • Previous experience in manufacturing and/or agriculture is an asset
