Director, Global Privacy

You have obtained your Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws from an accredited institution and are licensed to practice law in Ontario. You have 3-5 years of experience in privacy compliance, privacy program design and implementation, risk management, health information management or a related healthcare filed. Direct operational level privacy experience preferably in a health sector and/or IT environment is an asset. You currently have or are willing to obtain certifications with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/C and or CIPP/E) or equivalent credential.

Reporting to the VP, Business Development and General Counsel, you will promote the Company’s and its affiliates’ commitment to respecting individual privacy by helping to build trust, drive loyalty and manage the Company’s reputation through its privacy policies and practices.

Specifically, you will focus on:

Global Privacy Compliance

  • Lead the development and implementation and maintenance of processes and policies to ensure compliance with applicable global privacy laws and regulations
  • Develop, monitor and maintain a privacy compliance program, including policies, procedures and data governance process
  • Develop and manage internal privacy training, and promote privacy awareness across the Company and its affiliates
  • Provide advisory services, including the review of system access requests, data sharing agreements, contracts, and business processes that require access to PHI
  • Perform regular privacy audits
  • Leadprivacy impact assessments related to internal and external systems
  • Monitor privacy trends in the internal and external environment and advise on impact to the organization information and privacy practices
  • Educate and advise the business team on new data, privacy, and ethical uses, and provide strategies to addressprivacy and data governance considerations
  • Evaluate the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions
  • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries and investigations, incident/breach response, and intensified data subject requests.
  • Provide input on data protection-related issues within a variety of complex, multifaceted agreements involving partnerships, and technology transactions
  • Ensure commercial relationships comply with applicable law and our internal privacy, security, and compliance policies

Request and Incident Response

  • Lead response process to both internal and external incidentscomplaints, and privacy related inquires
  • Coordinate fulfilment of individual and data subject rights requests (access, rectification, deletion, etc.)
  • Liaise with external government and regulatory bodies, e.g. IPC, College of Respiratory Therapists, LHIN, etc.

Privacy Administration

  • Develop form agreements, best practices, and training initiatives that meet evolving business objectives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable domestic and international laws, regulations, and industry guidance that impacts commercial agreements.
