Afternoon Shift Licensed Tool & Die Maker
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Tool and Die Maker to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude and be proficient in the use of various tools and machinery. This role is essential in ensuring the production of high-quality tools and dies that meet our manufacturing standards. The Tool and Die Maker will report to the Maintenance Supervisor, and will be responsible for repair, troubleshooting, maintenance, and sharpening of progressive transfer dies.
Duties
- All die maintenance and repairs
- Preventative maintenance of dies
- TIG welding
- In-press troubleshooting
- Root cause/corrective action implementation
- Lock out/tag out
- Strip Layouts
- Prototype and production samples
- Gage and tooling review / design
- CAD-drawing and blueprint reading competency
- Section repairs
- Repairs of machinery during emergency break downs
- Other duties as requested
Requirements
- Valid certificate of qualification/license proof required
- Must be able to abide by all LA&M policies (including attendance, health and safety etc.)
- Must be able to read and write English
- Highly detail-oriented
- Excellent communication skills, tact and diplomacy representing the company with both internal and external customers
- Must be able to perform and use basic mathematical calculations
- Must be able to make judgments based on characteristics, cognitive reasoning, pattern recognition, analysis of failure modes
- College diploma or equivalent experience/education
Education and Experience
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Licensed Tool and Die certification
- 2 - 5 years' of experience as a Tool Maker in a manufacturing environment, preferably in metal stamping.
- Proficiency in operating manual machines (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders).
- Experience with hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine shop tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
- Familiarity with steel blanking, metal stamping, and die-making processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce precise, high-quality work
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical/ Environmental Requirements
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a unionized environment.
- Moderate to steady lifting from floor to waist and from waist to shoulder.
- Repetitive use of hands and wrist.
- This position requires a moderate to high degree of standing, walking, stooping/squatting, kneeling, reaching, pulling, or pushing.
- Required PPE at all times on the floor, CSA-approved safety shoes, safety glasses, and proper gloves.
- Able to crouch, bend, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color and depth variations and small details visually.
- Precision work, use of lathes, presses, hand tools, die schematics and specialty crafting abilities
- Plant/manufacturing environment; concrete floors, metal parts, assembly machinery, welders, presses, forklifts, cranes, variable temperatures, some outside/dock work (all seasons), moderate to high noise level.
- Punctual attendance to work is required.
- Ensure team compliance to safety and environmental rules and regulations.

URSA is a multi-shift operation. Successful application for this job does not entitle an employee to a shift ‘guarantee’. If the business needs change, the incumbent may be required to work on, or transfer to a different shift than the starting shift in this posting.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $41.40 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
