Pay Range: CA$76.033 to CA$84,481Per year

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct daily plant floor visits with the purpose of developing a safety culture including identifying and correcting risks, communicating said risks to the supervisor on shift and communicating with employees;
  • Develop, implement, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures;
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE legislation and regulations;
  • Be an ambassador and resource for DuPont STOP initiatives including training of new auditors, preparation of the schedule and reporting results to the plant weekly
  • Chair the contractor compliance program;
  • Co chair of the JHSC committee and lead the monthly JHSC meeting;
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions;
  • Lead accident, incident, and near miss investigations to identify the root cause and implement actions to correct;
  • Support the PSR (safety start) of all new equipment installations and changes;
  • Provide HSE training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and visitors;
  • Maintain records of safety inspections, audits, and reports;
  • Collaborate with management to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills;
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and serve as the company representative during HSE audits, inspections and investigations. (WSIB, MOL, MOE);
  • Keep up-to-date with new HSE legislation and industry best practices;
  • Prepare and submit reports on HSE performance metrics and initiatives. To include sharing across the Nortera network;
  • Must work in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures and report all unsafe or unhealthy conditions to your manager;
  • Waste water and irrigation system management and monitoring;
  • Compliance on water sampling procedures to include manually sampling from wells and boreholes on a scheduled basis;
  • Odours, spills, and other environmental monitoring;
  • Liaison and facilitate communication with GHD - The facilities professional services to support our waste water system and environmental practices;
  • Digest and formulate actions based on water testing results provided by ALS labs;
  • Report/due diligence to Ministry of Environment;
  • Hold an indirect reporting line to the maintenance manager in collaboration to maintain our waste water systems functionality;
  • Coordinate calibration and maintenance of sampling equipment;
  • Liaison with Waste Solutions Canada, waste disposal provider for the facility;
  • Annual submission to Metrio for natural resources reporting;
  • Waste auditing and diversion initiatives;
  • Hazardous waste management;
  • Maintaining and continuously improving the EMS (Environmental Management System);
  • Creating, updating, maintaining environmental documentation in compliance with the EMS;
  • Monitor environmental impact and develop strategies to minimize the company's ecological footprint;
  • Must work in compliance with established HACCP, Food Safety and GMP protocols and report any concerns to your direct manager;
  • Sit as part of the management team at the discretion of the plant manager;
  • Other duties as requested.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Environmental Science coupled with a demonstrated experience in Health and Safety;
  • Diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology or Water & Wastewater Systems coupled with five years experience in a combined Environmental and Health and Safety position;
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with a specific focus in food manufacturing; packaging and processing;
  • Demonstrated experience in Health and Safety and environmental compliance;
  • Proficient in downtime tracking data, Microsoft Office and Google; Knowledge of IBM Cognos tools, Python,  Pandas  and SQL programming languages;
  • Experience with data analysis and ETL or visualization tools.
