Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Technologist

 

London, ON

Under the direction of the Electric Meter Supervisor, or designate, you will provide technical communications, metering and energy services support to internal departments and external customers. 

 

JOB DUTIES

More specifically, as the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Technologist, you will:

  • Install, test, operate and troubleshoot field equipment for communication systems of smart meter,

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and wired/wireless installations (e.g., transceiver base station radio performance, cellular APN or equivalent).

  • Install, test, operate and troubleshoot interval meter communication systems (including but not limited to POTS, TCP/IP, WiFi, Cellular and RF based systems).
  • Understand and interact with various types of revenue and power quality meters and associated equipment to ensure accurate, safe and compliant metering for customers.
  • Support the maintenance of and operate the Smart Meter Validation Testbench by creating and

running test programs, including equipment factory acceptance and first article testing (FAT), and

working with equipment vendors and manufacturers to resolve issues and deficiencies.

  • Provide field measurements or educational information on the subject of electromagnetic fields.
  • Install data gathering equipment to capture and make available data in order to support analysis,

interpretation, reporting and presentation to internal departments and external customers.

  • Identify quality of supply issues at the point-of-common coupling (e.g., voltage flicker, harmonics,

voltage sag, unbalance, transients) with reference to CSA, IEEE, IEC and EN or other standards and

guidelines.

  • Contribute to load flow, harmonic and system fault analyses.
  • Create, maintain and document procedures, processes, and training materials.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, and assist with internally-defined customer-engagement programs, as

required.

  • Assist with responding to customer energy and/or billing concerns.
  • Provide positive customer service, and be an ambassador for London Hydro in the community by

coordinating with other departments and the customer to ensure prompt service, by working with

customers to resolve access, communications and metering issues, and by providing information on

metering standards and requirements.

  • Use personal computer and appropriate software proficiently as required.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety Act rules and regulations, the IHSA's Electrical Utility Safety Rules, London Hydro safe work practices and procedures, and all components of London Hydro's health and safety program.
  • Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.

 

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Along with a Technologist diploma, plus successful completion of MEARIE Meter Technician training courses Level I, II and III, you should have:

  • Completion of a community college Electrical Engineering Technologist program, or equivalent.
  • Driver’s License Class G (a driver's license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
  • Strong understanding of the design and operation of utility medium-voltage distribution systems, industrial plant distribution systems, and distributed generation and energy resources.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel)/Google Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.  
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • OACETT Certified (C.E.T.).
  • Responsibility for quality and quantity of work, and care and condition of tools, materials and equipment. 
  • Full awareness of job hazards, and use of appropriate safety equipment to protect self and others.

 

Base Salary: $37.14 to $53.05 per hour. In addition to base salary, this permanent, full-time position offers an attractive benefits package, including a pension plan (OMERS), 17 days’ vacation per year (with a credit for utility experience), and professional development opportunities, all in a positive working environment conducive to individual and team success.
