The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity to join General Dynamics as part of the Supply Chain Management team working within a group of over 120 supply chain professionals. The Supply Chain Management group is responsible for all procurement activity across domestic and international programs including material and service contracts across a diverse international base of suppliers, test sites, academic organizations and partners.


We are looking for a dynamic and professional Projects Manager to join our Leadership team, alongside three other Managers reporting directly to the Director of Supply Chain Management.


 

Your Role

The Projects Manager has responsibility for tracking, and reporting of all supply chain function performance and budgets associated with delivering and completing each business project or program. The Projects team are the primary liaison and interface with all other business functions including but not limited to program management, finance, engineering and manufacturing.

In this role, you will lead three teams of supply chain project leads covering domestic, international customer programs and internal engineering research and development activity.

    • Motivate, evaluate, guide and mentor the people within your team
      • Discuss, define and measure employee performance against personal and business goals
      • Provide honest, professional feedback during structured performance reviews
      • Co-ordinate developmental and technical training for staff, ensuring training packages remain relevant and appropriate for your team
    • Ensure the team is held accountable to performance commitments
    • Collaborate with your peers to solve challenges across budgets, staffing and / or Program execution
    • Enable the success of your team by identifying and resolving any road blocks
    • Participate in the recruitment of new employees
  • Project Coordination Responsibility
    • Accurately report overall SCM performance on all programs to the Program Office and Finance at a regular cadence
    • Understand, support and as required recommend adjustments in procurement strategy to meet overall program budget, schedule and strategic objectives
    • Engage with Engineering to support academic collaborations in support of research and development activity
    • Ensure successes and problems are communicated with required stakeholders and the leadership team as required
    • Participate in the development and monitoring of performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
    • Track, forecast and manage customer specific localization requirements such as local market minimum spend percentages

 

 

Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • University Degree in Supply Chain, Business or other related discipline
  • Relevant supply chain experience (preferably over 7 years)
  • Relevant management and leadership experience (preferably over 5 years)
  • Demonstrated high level of autonomous decision making ability, with excellent organizational, written and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers
  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple requirements, challenges and opportunities concurrently
  • Ability to travel as / if required (estimate 10% Cdn and 10% US/Int'l) and possess/ability to acquire and maintain a valid passport

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Program management skills, qualifications or experience
  • Financial and / or budgetary management / forecasting experience
  • Strong comfort level with technical language
  • Strong comfort level with complex contracts
