Summary of position

The Materials Application Development Manager is a strong technical project manager who will be responsible for supporting all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of advanced packaging solutions within our Cartons & Labels business unit. The incumbent will apply their strong leadership skills, along with their progressive technical knowledge of coatings and materials and packaging processes, to support the execution of customer solutions and trials of new production methodologies.

If you love the idea of working with cross-functional teams to devise packaging solutions that exceed customer’s expectations, then this position is a perfect fit for you.

If you get excited about using your materials science and packaging expertise to oversee projects from the idea generation stage through to manufacturing and customer order fulfilment, then this position is a perfect fit for you.

If you are a natural project manager, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple projects against tight timeframes, then this position is for you.

Please note: This position is eligible for relocation.

Here are some of the different activities you’ll be asked to do:

  • Undertake in-depth feasibility assessments on commercialization opportunities that may involve new design formats, materials, processing methodologies, or technical capabilities, identifying potential technical solutions, costs and related risks
  • Participate in customer consultations with respect to technical alternatives and oversee the implementation of the chosen recommendation through project management
  • Provide guidance on technical specifications (e.g. performance criteria for inks/coatings, consumption rates, process sequencing) related to RFQ’s
  • Liaise with suppliers on new/alternative materials and coatings to determine suitability for further investigation and testing, and then oversee related trials on potential material substitutes
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the introduction of new process technologies including training, oversight of SOP’s and defining protocols for related trial runs
  • Lead the maintenance of an online technical data warehouse encompassing process-flow and product specifications, proprietary know-how and technical development protocols, SOPs, and other technical information

If you’ve got:

  • Packaging Engineering degree or Bachelor of Science degree, with a specialization in coatings and polymeric materials and/or several years of applicable work experience
  • Experience with successful innovative solutions from idea inception to commercialization, which includes defining and managing manufacturing specifications and quality/operational metrics
  • Experience working cross-functionally to develop and test new ideas, production methods, and product concepts
  • Ability to prioritize against business initiatives
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
