Position Summary 

 

We are looking for a Lab Technician based at our London Ice Cream Factory, reporting into the Quality Assurance Supervisor. This role is part of the Quality Assurance team and will be responsible to perform various lab analyses, document results, and contribute to a safe and quality product for our consumers. 

 

A day in the life of a Lab Technician:

 

  • Follow all job-related guidelines and procedures for personal safety, food safety, environment and company security (including but not limited to lockout/tag out, use of P.P.E.’s, Hazard Analysis, chemical and product spills, recycling …) as required.  Be a role model for Quality and GMPs.
  • Work in a manner that provides maximum safety to yourself and your fellow associates
  • Follow NCE (Nestlé Continuous Excellence) principles 
  • Performs routine lab analysis following the procedures and standards of the Nestlé Quality System which include but are not limited to the following:
    • Analyze samples, including micro plating and chemical analysis 
    • Document results (e.g. in SAP) and organize test results for records review and analysis
    • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment, including housekeeping, cleaning, and 5S
    • Perform daily records review of raw material, in-process, and finished product quality data
    • Responsible for the release of materials meeting quality specifications
    • Perform test on pre-operational microbiological samples, review test results, coordinate any corrective actions, and manage test data
    • Perform review of batch records and manage finished product release duties, including creation of Quality Holds and follow ups
    • Investigate consumer complaints and contact raw material suppliers
    • Responsible for blocking of any product that does not meet quality specifications
    • Responsible for sensory panels and any other sensory-related duties
    • Adhere to Quality Monitoring Scheme (QMS) and put corrective action in place in case of deviation.
  • Know and adhere to G.M.P.’s in your area to prevent product contamination with foreign materials, bacteria or allergens
  • Champion a non-negotiable attitude for Quality
  • May work across all 3 shifts any day of the week, depending on business needs
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Rate:  $24.98 per hour

 

What will make you successful?

 

  • B.Sc. in biology, microbiology, Chemistry, nutrition or science/food related field or a College diploma in science/food related field as per letter of understanding #2 of the Collective Agreement.
  • Experience in analytical methods and have the ability to accurately perform various physical, chemical and microbiological testing.
  • Must have excellent communication skills to be able to effectively communicate within the department and with other departments via emails, in person, or on the phone.
  • Great attention to details is a must. Any failure can pose risks to Quality or Food Safety.
  • Must be able to effectively work with Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Outlook, Excel).
  • Must be able to carry out jobs/tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Must exhibit independent decision-making ability and possess good organizational skills.
  • Must exhibit accuracy, efficiency, effectiveness and initiative in the job.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully in the team environment.
  • SAP knowledge will be an asset.
