About the Role
As Manager of the Quality Assurance Laboratory, you will lead the setup and operation of a high-performing team focused on ensuring battery cell quality. You’ll oversee strategic planning, daily operations, and continuous improvement to align with our company standards. and goals. You will report directly to the Director of Quality Assurance, ensuring clear communication and accountability across all quality initiatives.
This position is a temporary hybrid model, requiring 2 days per week onsite in the St. Thomas office. This is subject to change based on the needs of the project and will eventually transition to fully onsite.
Key Responsibilities
• Establish and develop the Quality Assurance Laboratory, including layout, systems, and infrastructure. Build, lead and develop a high-performing team of specialists and frontline staff.
• Develop and implement quality processes and standard procedures for raw materials and chemical analysis.
• Oversee lab operations, including equipment procurement, maintenance and calibration time lines are met.
• Lead battery cell and subcomponents analysis in the Laboratory.
• Supervise testing protocols and analytical methods for battery cell and subcomponents inspection.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and support internal and external audits.
• Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for all lab personnel.
• Lead cross-functional team initiatives with Production, R&D, Headquarter and other battery plants to resolve product non-conforming topics as well as optimization of processes and implementing lessons learned.
•This role may require travel up to 20%.
What you bring to the Team
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant field such as Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy or Nanotechnology
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience within lithium battery or automotive manufacturing, or within the semiconductor, nuclear, chemical or pharmaceutical industries – experience managing a lab is strongly preferred
• 3+ years’ proven success in building, coaching, and mentoring high-performing teams
• Ability to provide conflict resolution and deliver performance management effectively
• Driving operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives
• Proficiency in techniques like spectroscopy, chromatography, and electrochemical analysis.
• Strong knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and automotive/battery industry standards.
• Strong knowledge in VDA, PPAP, IATF 16949, MSA, APQP, SPC, FMEA, and customer-specific requirements.
• Proficient in quality management software and statistical analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and coordination skills, while fostering collaboration and trust across diverse groups
• Ability to travel internationally for training and collaboration purposes
