CMM Metrology Quality Engineer

Key Job Elements

• Be the technical and strategic reference point, and expert on inspection
• Conduct First Piece Inspection (FPI) / Tool & Fixture Validation / Gauge Calibration
• Support Production to resolve quality issues involving measurement analysis
• Determine root causes of potential problems and support the execution of improvements to manufacturing
• Communicate inspection results to Production, Engineering and Suppliers
• Collaborate with suppliers and design Engineering on interpretation of product design
• Education and Guidance to GDLS Operational departments on dimensioning and measurability standards
• Evaluation and selection of new advanced metrology research including the identification, investigation and implementation of new advanced metrology and inspection systems and technologies
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and adjust work schedule to accommodate, working OT as required
• Ability to work multiple shifts as required
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and accomplish goals as a self-starter, while working across departments
• Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications

• University degree/College Diploma in a mechanical or technical discipline
• Relevant experience using metrology systems, including experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Strong understanding of manufacturing drawings and relevant standards
• Natural problem solver with excellent technical and analytical skills
• Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
• Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
• Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Restrictions for confined space

Preferred Qualifications:

• Engineering Degree and P.Eng designation
• Geometrical Dimensioning Tolerance Professional
• Knowledge of Faro Equipment, PolyWorks, CAM2,  VeriSurf, Power Inspect Etc.
• Weld/Assembly/Machining Manufacturing experience
• Previous experience of running CMM and 3D scanning equipment
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• GDLS Product Knowledge
• GDLS Product Assurance Procedures and Directives
