The Stress Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for aircraft development and certification programs. These activities include: the development and documentation of static strength methods, analysis and tests, and the review and approval of engineering data.

Responsibilities:
  • High degree of independent decision making based on departmental policies, sound engineering judgment, experience, and company goals or objectives

  • Anticipate and solve complex engineering problems

  • Develop standards and guides for diverse engineering activities

  • Conceive, plan, and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity

  • Conceive and plan investigations of broad areas for which engineering precedents are lacking, i.e. in areas critical to overall engineering problems

  • Act as a primary contact for all stress and structures matters, and mentor junior stress engineers as required

  • Improve daily processes and ensure all work meets customer needs

  • Maintain current knowledge developments in the field and other related aircraft fields

  • Recommend innovations to improve quality, economy, and effectiveness of aircraftdesigns

  • Perform other related duties as assigned including ongoing production support.



Skills & Experience:
 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering

  • Professional Engineering License is an asset

  •  10 years of relevant Engineering experience (5 years Stress and/or Structures)

  • Experience with composites, metallic structures, primary and secondary aircraft structures

  • Experience with full cycle analysis, including: loads extraction, application, boundary conditions, material definition, orientation, and free body diagrams & post processing

  • Familiar with static strength methods

  • Expertise in finite element modeling packages (Femap & NX Nastran, Patran, HyperMesh)

  • Expertise in composite stress analysis

  • Experience in testing of composites to develop material allowable for certification

  • Expertise in certification of composite structural components to CAR AWM 523 and/or EASA CS regulator requirements

  • Familiar with Part 23 certification regulations

  • Experience with CATIA V5, AutoCAD, and Solid Edge

  • Previous or current delegation experience with a civil aviation authority is an asset

  • Previous MRB authority also considered an asset
