Software Embedded Developer Specialist/Engineer


Position Description:

Specialist or Engineer, Software (Embedded Developer)


Key Job Elements:

  • Designing and developing efficient embedded applications using C/C++
  • Working closely with cross domain engineers to test, debug, and deploy vehicle subsystems
  • Development on a variety of platforms including Embedded and Linux
  • Participation in code reviews and documentation peer reviews


Position Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 3-5 years of embedded software development in bare-metal or using RTOS.
  • 3-5 year of Experience with C or C++
  • Experience with serial protocols for communication and logging
  • Testing and debugging skills
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication network protocols (CAN Bus, SAE J1939)
  • Ability to participate in concept and feature development
  • Familiarity with Git
  • Strong communication, organization and prioritization skills
  • Must be able to meet Anthropometrical Size Requirements for confined space
  • Ability to travel (5% Cdn) and (5% US & Int'l) and possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport
  • Must be able to work in Canada and to obtain CGP (Controlled Goods Program) clearance and be eligible for access to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) controlled data/hardware
  • The incumbent must have or be able to obtain and maintain Secret Level clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • • 5 or more years of embedded software development on a variety of platforms
  • • Experience with developing secure embedded applications
  • • Adept with embedded real time operating systems
  • • Experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS)
  • • Experience developing for FreeRTOS
  • • Utilization of mainstream development tools such as Eclipse-based IDEs
  • • Familiarity with wiring and troubleshooting/debugging Digital Circuits
  • • Knowledge of Network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP)
  • • Experience with Agile/SCRUM software practices
  • • Familiarity with JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo, and Confluence
  • • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) design and/or model driven development
  • • Experience working the full life cycle of a project from bidding and requirements definition, through design, build, qualification and support of fielded products
  • • Experience with industry and military standards relevant to military vehicle design and/or automotive design
  • • P. Eng or eligibility for P. Eng status
