Financial Business Partner

As a Finance Business Partner, you will be responsible for working alongside our Business Unit non-financial managers to develop and improve commercial and financial decision making in support of maximizing financial results. As a trusted advisor you will provide support and analysis to operations and management to add value to the business, influence day to day decisions, help shape strategy and the direction of the business.

 

This position has the flexibility to be based remotely throughout Ontario with the expectation of travel to our JMP offices located throughout North America.

 

What would a typical day look like?

  • Build partnerships and maintain strong relationships with Divisional & Branch leaders and their teams – become their trusted advisor to help manage their businesses and make effective financial and commercial decisions, including:
  • Lead on financial and commercial matters
  • Influence decision making
  • Educate and improve the understanding of Financial Reporting and Business Unit performance
  • Deliver insight on business opportunities
  • Drive value through decisions to improve increasing revenue through selling for value and bottom-line performance through efficiencies and business decisions
  • Providing options & scenarios to support business & commercial decisions in the Business Unit to ensure key operational, commercial, and financial targets are achieved
  • Supporting the President on ad hoc items
  • Drive a cadence of meetings with Business Unit leaders:
  • Weekly ad hoc discussions around performance to KPI metrics, suggestions for improvement, seek to understand gaps to plan
  • Involvement with sales and applications in proposal development relating to pricing and commercial matters, as well as advising on terms & conditions with customers
  • Monthly financial review in detail, educating on what results mean, change suggestions’ impact on financial results
  • Support in budgeting process from a business standpoint
  • On call support for questions as they arise
  • Attendance at Divisional/Branch extended huddles to support the manager in discussions with their teams, address financial questions, and offer insight to support Project Managers, Business Development Managers, and employees
  • Travel to local sites as needed
  • Involvement with applications teams in large proposal development, commercial terms discussions, attendance on proposal review calls
  • Weekly discussion with VP of Ops regarding operating metrics to actuals, insights learned from Leaders & suggestions as they arise

 

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Commercially aware, understanding and anticipating the needs of both operations and management
  • Strong core business skills including influencing, stakeholder management and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills working with individuals and building collaborative relationships
  • Strong problem-solving skills, interpret data, order and assess its value and then present the findings to the relevant stakeholders in a clear and concise way
  • Strong presentation skills, can draw on ‘big’ and ‘small’ data, selecting the appropriate tools to manipulate, analyze and interpret it in sophisticated, audience-appropriate ways
  • Have the ability to form and stand over their opinions, have a well-developed sense of ethics and be prepared to stand up for these principles
  • Comfortable with risk and working with ambiguity
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
