Dessert Holdings is a leading baked goods platform providing premium layer cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, bars, and other desserts to the retail in-store bakery ("ISB") and foodservice channels on a largely private label basis. We are currently have an opportunity for a Labour Scheduler/HR Specialist person to join our team. 

The Labour Scheduler/HR Specialist role is critical to the success of our operations ensuring that labour is scheduled in accordance with production requirements. Managing vacation, time off, and legislated leave requests to balance with operational requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties:  (this is meant to be an outline, not an exhaustive list of responsibilities)

  • Follow production schedules and staffing guidelines to create and post employee schedules in accordance with policies and procedure
  • Update staff schedules daily and respond to employee shortages as required
  • Adjust scheduling as required to facilitate ad hoc events (i.e. employee appreciation lunches, cake talks etc.)
  • Identify personnel scheduling constraints and raise awareness with various stakeholders
  • Address labour scheduling issues and respond to employee concerns and requests around scheduling
  • Work with our computerized scheduling program to enter and extract data needed on a daily basis
  • Organize and complete annual vacation bidding for all production employees
  • Continuously evaluate and improve labour scheduling processes
  • Provide assistance and expertise in terms labour planning when required
  • Maintain and improve tracking statistics for labour trends and usage
  • Track and confirm approval of employee requests for scheduling changes (i.e. LOA, day off)
  • Provide assistance to employees with forms, scheduling information, general requests
  • Maintain a customer service focus as a fundamental value in daily activities
  • Data entry support - training database, Food Safe and H&S tracker
  • Support new employee orientations
  • Provide reception coverage
  • Document filing and maintenance of employee notice boards

Position Requirements:

  • Experience in labour scheduling for a large workforce (500+ production employees)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalent required
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Navision would be an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills and ability to remain calm in sometimes stressful situations
  • Excellent attendance and disciplinary record
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and make impartial decisions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • It is anticipated that the candidate will master core accountabilities of the role quickly while performing at a high standard.
