Founded in 1967, we have over 50 years of industry experience and are widely recognized as one of the top five surveying firms in the province. Today, we have three offices across Ontario located in London, North Bay, and Carleton Place.
In 2018, we founded Callon Dietz Locates Inc., which specializes in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigation services. Our clients now benefit from an integrated service offering that includes above-ground surveying and underground utility information services.
The Opportunity
We are actively recruiting a SUE Field Technician/Experienced Utility Locator to join our team in Toronto, Ontario. The responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Working together with the SUE Team in the field
- Travelling to other cities/areas and working in a variety of settings and work site conditions
- Operating survey equipment to collect paint marking and utility information
- Collecting field data; locating utilities using a wide range of equipment such as single and multi-signal locating equipment and ground penetrating radar
- Reading scope of work documents and performing safety site inspections
- Assisting in the preparation of field notes and digital locate sketches using electronic markup software
- Maintaining field equipment and vehicles
- Coordinating with and providing support to our drafting/mapping division
- Acting as an on-site point of contact when required, including supervising sub-consultants (i.e. CCTV, vacuum excavation, etc.)
- Performing all duties in compliance with the OHSA and Callon Dietz’s Health and Safety and Quality Control programs
The Ideal Candidate
- Has 1-3 years of hands-on utility locating experience
- Is a critical thinker with superior problem-solving skills
- Is a strong communicator who can embrace our high productivity work environment by positively contributing to the team effort
- Is eager to work outside year-round
- Has the flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and out-of-town
- Holds a valid driver’s license and a clean Ontario drivers abstract
- A university degree or college diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, and/or Construction Management is considered an asset
- Utility locating training (i.e. ORCGA DPT) is considered an asset
- Is able to read utility records
- Is a strong communicator who can embrace our high productivity work environment by positively contributing to the team effort
- Is eager to work outside year-round and within a strong safety culture
- Has the flexibility to work evenings, nights, weekends, and out-of-town
- Holds a valid driver’s license and a clean Ontario drivers abstract
