Chief Financial Officer

Position Overview:

Motif Labs, Canada's largest private cannabis business, demonstrating industry leading market share and profitability metrics, is seeking an entrepreneurial Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to take ownership of all financial aspects of Motif’s ongoing growth initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for evolving and aligning company-wide financial strategies, while building a deep culture of data driven decision making, KPI management, and risk management.  In addition to overseeing Finance, Business Intelligence, Risk Management and IT functions, the CFO will act as a mentor and a strategic ally to the entire senior management team. The successful candidate will  be invigorated by Motif’s fast paced, collaborative and execution focused culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial and Business Intelligence Leadership:

• Institute company-wide discipline to attain and exceed key financial KPIs
• Ownership of critical financial metrics, including revenue, gross profit, EBITDA, and cashflow
• Lead the finance and BI functions with a focus on providing data-driven strategic insights to maximize revenue, profitability, and market penetration.
• Monitor and measure advanced performance metrics, make predictions, and act quickly to steer the organization with an entrepreneurial mindset
• Balance cost constraints and opportunity progression by maintaining a detailed and up to date understanding of risks and opportunities
• Build strong relationships with your counterparts at Motif’s key vendors and customers; continue to build Motif’s reputation in the industry as a trustworthy and competent partner, and leverage those relationships to achieve Motif’s financial goals
• Maintain medium to long term view on the business, with a keen eye on risk management to ensure that Motif’s rapid and tactical decisions are best serving our future revenue and profitability goals
• Develop improved monthly financial review structure and cadence through entire organization, driving awareness and accountability.
• Lead annual budget planning process and quarterly business reviews (QBR); focus QBR on identifying deviations from plans and driving strategy to course correct

Mentorship Empowering All Departments:

• Be a driving force across the entire organization to build a culture of commitment to achieving financial KPIs; empower all senior leaders to understand and own the P/L of their business units
• Serve as an independent source of truth, diving into all facets of the business (sales, marketing, HR, operations, and other) to uncover risks, opportunities and insights
• Work closely with all business unit leaders to educate on how their financial goals contribute to achieving corporate goals and business health; instill a deep level of accountability to owning the numbers and KPIs driving each leader’s business units
• Challenge all departments to provide thoughtful and data backed reasoning behind all spend related decisions

 Operational Excellence:

• Lead the seamless integration of ERP systems into the finance domain, enhancing financial reporting precision, optimizing cost allocation/tracking, and enabling agile workforce reporting and management
• Build a culture of KPI monitoring and dashboard development throughout the entire organization to allow for rapid and accurate assessment of critical KPIs
• Develop and maintain a robust risk registry and associated action plan; hold the organization accountable to executing against the action plan
• Leverage emerging technologies to improve quality of analysis and insights

 Qualifications:

• 10-15 years experience in strategic senior leadership roles overseeing Finance, Business Intelligence, Operations teams in high growth organizations
• An ability to command a presence and drive change with peers and subordinates across the entire organization
• A willingness to dig deep to understand the business, and an ability to act quickly to effect change
• A forward looking and strategic mindset is a must; demonstrated success in guiding a company through financial success
• Experience collaborating with and reporting to an active Board of Directors
• Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Business, Statistics
• MBA an asset

WORKING CONDITIONS (HYBRID):

This is a hybrid role where you will need to be on site at our production facility in Aylmer, Ontario with some flexibility to work remotely.  Specifically, it will be a minimum of 2 days a week in Aylmer to start for the first two quarters and then bi-weekly 2 day visits.
