We are seeking a salaried Disability and Claims Specialist who is aspiring to reach their potential in the field of construction, reporting to the People and Culture Manager. As the Disability and Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and monitoring WSIB (Workplace Safety & Insurance Board) claims, support Return-to-Work programs and manager the full lifecycle of insurance claims. You will work as a cross functional member of the People and Culture team.
Environment
While supporting a construction environment you will be working within an office environment. You will be required on occasion to visit construction sites. You will have the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Your support may be required outside of normal work hours.
How you will make an IMPACT
Disability Management
- Coordinates the disability program for staff who are unable to return to their regular duties as a result of an occupational or non-occupational illness or injury
- Acts as a resource for management and staff on RTW programs
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees and managers
- Assist management in overseeing the RTW process, including modified work programs, minimizing time loss and claim costs through early intervention and proactive co-ordination of program
- Review functional abilities forms
- Acts as the primary contact with WSIB
- Complete all WSIB required forms to ensure compliance with deadlines and legislation
- Liaises with the WSIB, medical professionals and related agencies regarding WSIB claims management activities
- Tracks attendance and disability management including graduated return to work programs and accommodation
- Responsible for monitoring claims activity from date of injury to full recovery
- Meet with appropriate parties for company representation
- Track and monitor absences due to non-occupational illness and injury
- Correspond with employees, managers, Health and Safety, and Payroll to ensure all documentation is received and processed within strict timelines
Claims Management
- Manage the full lifecycle of insurance claims from initial incident reporting through resolution
- Ensure timely reporting of claims to insurers and brokers in accordance with policy requirements
- Maintain accurate and detailed claim files and documentation
- Monitor claim status, reserves, and settlement progress
- Track claim trends, costs, and loss data
- Review internal incident reports for completeness and accuracy
- Coordinate claims management related to vehicle incidents, equipment damage, property loss, and liability events
- Gather supporting documentation including photos, witness statements, repair estimates, police reports, and site reports
- Serve as a contact with insurance brokers, adjusters, and legal counsel
- Communicate claim updates to leadership and operational teams
- Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
How you WOW us
- 5-7 years of work experience in disability management, return to work programs, claims management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Sound knowledge of W.S.I.A., O.H.S.A., Human Rights Code, Ontarians with Disabilities Act, as well as employment and other related legislation
- Experience with supporting a People and Culture team
- Experience working with insurance claims
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent organizational, analytical skills, and detail oriented
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Can adhere to confidentiality requirements
- Experience in union relations would be an asset
- Strong work ethic
