We are looking to fill a 3 to 6-month contract position for a Health, Safety and Environment Coordinator.

 

This position has a direct reporting relationship to the Plant Manager, with a dotted line to the Regional Environmental, Health and Safety Managers. 

 

If you get excited about leading Environment, Health & Safety to “beyond compliance” status, working to reduce injuries, assisting in incident investigations, maintaining measurable EHS goals and objectives, utilizing inspections and hazard analysis to develop a comprehensive safety programs that addresses potential injury situations, this position is a perfect fit for you.

Here are some of the different activities you’ll be asked to do:

  • Develop, implement, and manage safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Lead the safety improvement process and implement safety practices throughout the organization.
  • Conduct safety audits and advise employees on safe practices and potential hazards.
  • Train production leadership on safety-related topics and coach employees on accident prevention and safe workplace practices
  • Create and maintain a communication process to make safety priorities and performance visible.
  • Ensure systems are in place for an effective safety program while meeting regulatory guidelines (federal, provincial, local) such as record keeping, recording, safety statistics, and trend analysis.
  • Understand regulatory requirements for hearing conservation and maintain compliance through process modifications and updates.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements for respiratory protection (including but not limited to: medical tracking and clearance, fit testing, training, and equipment)
  • Serve as a primary contact for all safety inspections/inquiries and provide technical support for on-going problems and safety violations.
  • Support the First Responder Program including recruitment of responders, training, equipment, supplies, and documentation.
  • Understand and comply with all other safety related issues (including, but not limited to; confined space, and Lockout/Tagout)
  • Monitor and coordinate employee mobile equipment licenses and testing (forklift operation, CDL, etc.)
  • Lead the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.  Participate in various safety-oriented activities (e.g., job hazard analysis, ergonomic analysis, etc.)
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) management system to monitor and control all chemicals on plant site including routine training with employees who work with chemicals.
  • Communicate safety issues to employees and ensure proper procedures are followed and assist supervisors by monitoring employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

 

If you have the following Education, Skills and Experience:

  • BS/BA in a related field (Safety Engineering, Occupational safety/Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Engineering, Management or equivalent) or at least three years related experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to make improvements and drive change.
  • Ability to engage others and build consensus.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance (WSIB), and Ontario Safety Regulations
