We currently have openings for Agriculture Technicians at each of our Ontario plants in Tecumseh, Strathroy, and Ingersoll. While the roles provide daily support to our overall growing regions in Southwestern Ontario, please indicate your preferred plant(s) in your application. YOUR DAILY ROLE
You'll invest the majority of your time in three key areas:
- Develop working relationships with contracted growers, harvesters, and agriculture service providers to establish best growing practices and optimize quality vegetable production
- Collect grower and vegetable crop data, complete reports, and update grower and crop databases
- Establish, coordinate, and monitor vegetable production programs (peas, beans, sweet corn, and other crops) and crop research trials
Specifically, you will:
- Develop and implement planting schedules and sequencing
- Make crop protection product recommendations for weeds, insects, and disease control
- Ensure crops are harvested at optimum maturity and delivered on schedule
- Direct and coordinate the activities of custom harvesting contractors and carriers relative to the needs of the production facility
- Maintain a close link between field and processing operation
- Regional management of growers, fields, and crops
You’ll report to the Agriculture Manager at one of our facilities and work with the Ontario Agriculture staff. Join the team that supports our partner vegetable growers in Southwestern Ontario and supplies raw product to our processing plants.
You will bring the following to the business:
- Post-secondary education in a discipline related to agriculture and relevant work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of agronomy, nutrient management, and crop protection products
- Agronomic certification is considered an asset
- Food processing knowledge is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Demonstrated occupational health & safety competency
- Critical thinking skills
- Proven organizational and planning skills
