Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Traffic & Transportation Engineer/Program Manager, Traffic & Transportation develops and manages programs to identify, evaluate and address issues related to traffic operations, transportation planning, and related transportation infrastructure. 

Work Performed:

  • Identify and assess existing transportation safety, operational and capacity issues by implementing and evaluating data collection programs.  Recommend policies and strategies to address long-term transportation capacity needs.
  • Develop and recommend design criteria, construction standards and specifications for transportation infrastructure projects. 
  • Liaise with Construction Administration on projects of mutual interest.
  • Manage staff and conduct performance reviews, facilitate development and training opportunities, participate in and make recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, and conduct matters.
  • Ensure that direct reports have appropriate health and safety training and enforce safe work procedures.
  • Direct technical staff, consultants and contractors in the planning, design, contract preparation, construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure projects to resolve safety, operational and capacity issues.
  • Direct consultants and technical staff in the conduct of studies.
  • Manage the evaluation of transportation safety and capacity issues through the development of procedures and recommended solutions.

  • Recommend policies, programs and regulatory controls to address transportation safety, capacity and arterial road and traffic operational problems.
  • Develop procedures to evaluate the impact to transportation related to development proposals, and recommend policies and measures to mitigate potential issues. 
  • Assist in the preparation and administration of the assigned Operating and Capital budgets.
  • Provide expert testimony at hearings.
  • Participate in presentations at public meetings and Committee and Council.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate university degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline; or a three year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Licensed with the Professional Engineers of Ontario as a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and 5 years of previous experience in transportation engineering and project management,  OR
  • Licensed with the Professional Engineers of Ontario as a Licensed Engineering Technologist (LET) with a scope relevant to the position and 8 years of related work experience.
  • Experience as a Project Lead or in supervising technical staff.
  • Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is an asset.
  • Project management certification is an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of all related Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulations and standards.  
  • Project management certification is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in report writing, and preparing correspondence.
  • Strategic thinking skills; advanced analytical and research skills to analyze complex data and resolve complex problems and present data and results in understandable formats.
  • Ability to travel to various locations within the Municipality.

 

Compensation & Other Information:

$99,156 - $129,818

This posting is for 1 permanent full-time position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work and work arrangement are subject to change in accordance to business requirements.

 

This position will be part of the team involved in operating London’s Transportation Management Centre which oversees the new and growing Advance Transportation Management System (ATMS), Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System (ATSC), the Travel Time System, the Traffic Monitoring System and the Advanced Transit Signal Pre-Emption/Priority System.
