Environmental Coordinator - Contract

Role Summary
This position is responsible to deliver all aspects of the Formet Industries Environmental Management policies and procedures. The Environmental Coordinator will work with various groups internally and externally to maintain a healthy working environment at Formet Industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations, Formet’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
- Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
- Act as the environmental management representative and have the fined authority and responsibility for ensuring that the requirements of all Environmental Management System (EMS) policies are implemented and maintained.
- Establishes and monitors environmental programs and updates/reviews these policies and procedures as required in accordance to ISO14001 and Environmental Legislation.
- Monitor new and revised legislation to remain current with latest environmental requirements.
- Provide all required sampling to ensure compliance with environmental guidelines.
- Facilitate any additional testing/sampling required as per legislation, guidelines, or the EMS.
- Facilitate the training of all Team Members in WHMIS.
- Coordinate with the Joint Health and Safety and Management Safety Committees as required.
- Participate in monthly Team Member meetings when necessary.
- Manage the New Product Validation process.
- Monitor the Material Safety Data Sheet database and make sure they are updated.
- Accompany the Joint Health and Safety Committee on any plant audit (at their request).
- Report on the performance and effectiveness of the EMS to Magna, management, and other groups as required.
- Analyze environmental usage statistics and make recommendations.
- Offer suggestions to continuously improve the environmental management system.
- Respond to all Health, Safety and Environmental concerns that are raised by Formet Team Members.
- Assist in and take part in all Action Plans developed to address Formet Team Member concerns, Magna Audit requirements, Ministry of Labour orders and items in regards to Health, Safety and the Environment.
- Participate in the investigation of any spills/environmental incidents and follow up to ensure clean up and recommendations are completed.
- Participate and collaborate in all Internal or External audits encompassing the EMS.
- Contribute corrective actions to meet or exceed the Plant and Department Key Performance Targets.
- Prepare and be able to deliver training modules for the Formet Industries Environmental Program.
- Act as liaison with the Ministry of Environment and Magna’s Corporate Environmental Department.
- Assist with the Health and Safety Program as required.
- Perform other duties as designated.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Completion of a post-secondary environmental degree / diploma.
- Must have skills gained by experience of minimum one year of experience.
- Experience working with ISO 14001 is an asset.
- Experience with regulatory reporting is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Office and Manufacturing Environments
- Able to work shift work.
- Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)
Safety and Housekeeping
- Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.
- Follow and ensure the company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
- Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Formet’s safety rules and regulations.
- Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example.
- Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
- As with Safety, Security is everyone’s responsibility and Formet requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
