The Opportunity
Medicom is seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist to join our team in London, Ontario.
In this key role, you will develop, implement, and maintain our environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs to ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace.
You will lead initiatives that support regulatory compliance, employee well-being, and our ongoing commitment to responsible manufacturing in the medical device sector.
What You Will Do
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal health, safety, and environmental regulations, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA).
- Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS) aligned with ISO 13485, ISO 45001, and applicable CSA standards.
- Lead the design and execution of EHS programs, including training, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling and ensure proper documentation and disposal practices.
- Conduct industrial hygiene assessments, including air quality, noise, ergonomics, and chemical exposure monitoring.
- Prepare and deliver employee safety training and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Develop emergency response procedures and coordinate drills to ensure site readiness.
- Partner with internal teams and external regulatory bodies to drive continuous improvement and operational compliance.
- 3–5 years of experience in EHS roles within a manufacturing environment, ideally in medical device or pharmaceutical industries.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485, ISO 45001, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience in a greenfield startup environment.
- Familiarity with the City of London’s regulations and local governing bodies.
- Certification such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
