Job Description

 

1.0  Position Summary:

Responsible for using metal cutting machines and other specialized equipment to manufacture, modify, maintain, refurbish and repair punches, dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, machine parts, prototypes, test equipment, display mounts, and automated equipment.  

 

2.0  Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Design, manufacture, modify, and repair production tooling and equipment
  • Troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues
  • Program and troubleshoot CNC Programs
  • Suggest tooling and equipment improvements
  • Support in the manufacture prototypes and test equipment for product engineering
  • Repair and maintain tool room equipment
  • Evaluate tooling and material needs (provide lists for order)
  • Measure and confirm new or modified tooling is built to dimensions and tolerances as outlined on the drawing
  • Rotation through various work areas and shifts

3.0  Health & Safety:

  • Maintain a safe workplace
  • Wear Personal Protective equipment as required on the shop floor
  • Comply with the company policies, procedures, and OHSA (Occupational Health & Safety Act)
  • Participation is required in our internal responsibility system (right to know, right to refuse, right to participate)
  • Follow safe work and lockout / tagout procedures as required
  • Report unsafe conditions or hazards as soon as possible to your supervisor
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Adhere to and maintain WHMIS requirements
  • Annual medical surveillance may be required

6.0  5S:

  • Ensure your work area is maintained at required daily 5S standards
  • Take 5 minutes at the end of your shift to follow the daily 5S standards as posted in your work cell
  • Sign off on the 5S checklist daily (initial and date)
  • Correct any deviations from 5S standards immediately or write it down on the cell board for follow up
  • Support the monthly 5S clean up as required

     

7.0  Daily Management:

9.0  Qualification:

  • Certified Tool and Die Maker
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to use various measuring devices
  • Working knowledge and experience with computers
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions
  • Solid knowledge of tool and fixture design
  • Knowledge of brazing, grinding, turning, drilling, milling, and heat treating
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Welding experience is an asset
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

     

10.0  Educational Requirements:

  • O.S.S.D or equivalent
  • Tool & Die Maker licence (Red Seal)
  • Certificate of apprenticeship

11.0  Additional Skills / Knowledge Requirements / Other:

  • Complies with all company policies and procedures
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management
