Safety Specialist
 

We are hiring a Safety Specialist in our St. Thomas, ON location!

 

This position is 100% on site.

 

The Safety Specialist provides guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees, to promote an occupational health & safety culture and create a continuous improvement and proactive OHS management cycle.

In this role, you will be responsible for environmental programs to ensure compliance to environmental regulations.

What You Will Do:

  • Partner with the plant Health and Safety and operations team to provide guidance and technical support to implement new initiatives and policies.

  • Provide health and safety support, advice and coaching to employees and supervisors

  • Promote and support improvement in health and safety leading and lagging targets and develop and implement initiatives to achieve these targets.

  • Support coordination and administration of health and safety programs

  • Provide support to supervisors and JHSC with the investigation process

  • Provide input on health and safety plans, policies, procedures and new initiatives that respond to the needs of the business.

  • Manage health and safety training programs and ensure all current training is accurate and up to date.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Submit environmental reporting to MOE on time and accurately.

  • Lead risk assessments to identify risk and controls on production floor.

  • Conduct internal health and safety audits, inspections and follow-ups to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide employee communication and education on health and safety policies and standards, best practices and incident learnings to reduce the risk of injury and accidents.

  • Maintain the Chemical Inventory list; Material Safety Data Sheets, Hazardous Materials storage and disposal plan.

  • Develop specific machine process procedures as needed.

  • Promote safety awareness at the facility and monitor for safety compliance.

  • Lead safety improvements through active participation in Lean activities 

  • Conduct incident trends analysis and lead reduction team to improvement

 

Who You Are:

  • 3-5 years’ of experience working in a manufacturing environment in a health & safety role

  • Knowledge of Environmental regulations.

  • Knowledge of Health Safety and Environment (HSE) related legislation.

  • Strong organization and planning skills with ability to lead initiatives from inception through to implementation

  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence at all levels of the organization through a collaborative approach

  • Results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Ability to solve problems through root cause analysis methodologies

  • Minimum of a Community College diploma or equivalent training in a safety/environment or related field.

  • CRSP or working towards completion is preferred
