Contract Project Engineer 

Dessert Holdings® is North America's premium dessert company, recognized for providing our retail and foodservice customers with chef-inspired innovative desserts made with real ingredients. Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Dessert Holdings is an umbrella organization of three premium dessert companies and brands: The Original Cakerie (TOC), Lawler's Desserts, and Atlanta Cheesecake Company. 

The Contract Project Engineer manages capital projects in accordance with TOC (London, Ontario location) standards and procedures, assists with organizing and executing the capital plan process, and helps facility managers to maintain our assets in a consistent manner to enhance efficiency, lower costs, and maximize asset utilization in a CI environment.  This position is not a direct hire of TOC and will act independently as a consultant, having their own registered business number, WSIB & liability coverage, and will invoice TOC for performed services.  This contract is for a 4 to 6 month duration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage capital projects as assigned according to the Capital Plan
  • Assist in the development of the Capital Plan and help revise plans throughout the year
  • Support the CI team in the development and execution of CI projects and initiatives
  • Co-ordinate with all facility teams to help control and minimize costs while implementing changes, all while maintaining high quality, value added products manufacturing at all times
  • Monitors production results and helps facilitate timely and effective response
  • Regularly review and recommend revising plans for capital projects, CI activity, PM, environmental initiatives, and safety improvements
  • Aligns self, plus other Engineering team members to the department mission, Operations team, product strategies and to the Mission of TOC
  • Expertly assists plant Maintenance teams and all Operations team members to achieve their goals.
  • Cleverly helps to solve problems while contributing to team building in a CI environment as a facilitator and/or active team member
  • Leads by example with a positive attitude, good listening skills, excellent communication, and a tireless work ethic

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering or other applicable field required
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation an asset
  • PMP certification an asset
  • Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing training an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a Food & Beverage or Pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
  • Capital project management experience required
  • Frozen bakery experience an asset
  • Some off shift and weekend work as required by specific projects
  • Strong knowledge of the food manufacturing industry and equipment required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and intimate knowledge of manufacturing equipment required
  • Electrical/controls experience an asset
  • Experience in a machine building environment an asset
