Maple Leaf Foods is embarking on one of the most exciting journeys in its history through the build and startup of a world-class, leading edge manufacturing facility producing premium, value added fresh poultry products. The new 640,000 square foot facility will call London, ON home and will employ over 1,600 employees as we ramp up operations over the next few years.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

As Sanitation Supervisor, you will:
  • Consistent with our leadership values, act as a champion for our culture by participating in the development and execution of a positive and productive environment focused on the needs of our people.
  • Actively involved and represent sanitation requirements in all plant programs.
  • Directs employees in GMP’s, HACCP, pre-operational, and sanitation procedures,
  • Write new sanitation SOP’s, work instructions and maintain to keep it updated.
  • Develop a sanitation training manual, train sanitation contract workers on new sanitation procedures to meet all job requirements and ensure compliance with all company and regulatory requirements. Monitor and track training progress.
  • Supervise, coordinate sanitation activities, motivate and lead the sanitation contract workers.
  • Oversee the cleaning and sanitization of equipment, surfaces, utensils and plant environment by providing direction, working ‘hands on’ to motivate and provide technical support to all sanitation employees and other plant employees as required.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records for due diligence of sanitation procedures and continuous improvements.
  • Submits work orders for the repair and maintenance of equipment with follow up,  
  • Plan sanitation requirements, non-daily tasks and activities by establishing priorities, scheduling, assigning work and communicating with sanitation staff and key stakeholders frequently and regularly within timelines.
  • Audit and report non-compliance and take corrective actions to assure compliance to all quality assurance and food safety requirements on a regular and daily basis.
  • Participate in audits, accountable for the result and action plan of sanitation audits.
  • Order, track inventory and safely store sanitation supplies/equipment/tools and cleaning chemicals.
  • Track, trend and give regular feedback to contractor on critical sanitation metrics (micro TPC swabs, ATP, Pre-op deficiencies, MSS completion) to measure performance and achieve improvements while maintaining all standards.
  • Work with 3rd party sanitation contractors and chemical supplier technical staff in troubleshooting and eliminating root cause issues of non-conformities.
  • Do seek and destroy activities as required.
  • Support and execute the Company’s Food Safety programs at the facility in conjunction with Quality Assurance, Microbiology and Food Safety. Provide input on sanitation excellence across the organization.
  • Support and promote the company’s Health and Safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and JHSC recommendations.
  • Temporary backfill for Sanitation Leader when required.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

What you will bring:

  • Relevant Post-secondary education.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience, ideally in a food processing facility.
  • Knowledge and experience with Sanitation as it relates to Food Safety
  • Aptitude for continuous learning.
  • Ability to get things done with minimal supervision and must be flexible to work varying shifts and  weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships with multiple cross-functional areas, (ie. Operations, Maintenance, Food Safety Quality Assurance, Materials) to enhance efficiency and productivity
  • Proven leadership abilities. Able to manage and build a team.
  • Detailed, solutions and results oriented.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate (i.e. read, speak and write) in English.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and working knowledge in SAP.
  • Knowledge of industry related quality systems and inspection programs, cleaning systems (CIP, COP) and chemicals.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, WHMIS, First Aid, Food Safety, Basic Food Microbiology, Lock Out and Tag Out, and Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Able to work in cold, humid or wet manufacturing environment, work with chemicals and stand/walk a lot.
