Manufacturing Engineer

Purpose

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the incumbent is responsible to support the organization with all facets of manufacturing including equipment, tools, building and instructions to facilitate the production of high-quality magnesium die-castings that meet customer requirements. Also, improve all operations through a planned program of continuous improvements and to provide ongoing support to the manufacturing group

Responsibilities

• Assisting in capital expenditures process: Writing specifications for the purchase of new or replacement equipment.

• Overseeing the acquisition and installation of new equipment.

• Sourcing and ordering capital equipment and tools for continuous improvement of existing systems, as well as, stock items for current and new manufacturing components.

• Working closely with suppliers to ensure that products are delivered on time and to specifications.

• Contacts: To explore ideas from people on the floor, trade shows, salespeople, on the latest technology and best production practices.

• Participate in interdepartmental team activities to accomplish goals.

• Project management: Continuous improvement of existing equipment.

• Implement new technologies at manufacturing cells.

• Enhance cell layout and material handling.

• Attending meetings, planning, receiving approvals, completing layouts, vendor visits for machining and assembly cells.

• Assist plant team members to achieve effective and efficient production processes, including the occasional supervision of co-op & production personnel.

• Completing reports as required

• Resolving health and safety issues.

• Communication: Acting as customer liaison to ensure adequate communication on equipment and other purchases.

• Coordinating work to ensure on-time completion of projects.

• Dealing with customers on a firsthand basis.

• Troubleshooting: solving and correcting failed or inconsistent manufacturing equipment and systems.

• Direct vendors on capital equipment design based on Meridian Scope of Work and machine build standards.

• Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise

Skills/Experience/Education

• Bachelors’ Degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering Discipline

• Minimum 7 years automotive engineering experience

• Project management experience

• Project management designation, PMP Prince 2 or similar

• Excellent Mechanical, Hydraulic and Electrical knowledge and troubleshooting experience with elevated understanding of Allen Bradley/Siemens control systems

• Working knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, personal computers and software.

• Show initiative, self-discipline, excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership in team environment, project and time management skills

• Know the ethical and legal obligations outlined in the Engineering Code of Ethics

• Strong understanding of blueprint reading, physics, costing, and value analysis

• Good organization skills and team oriented.

• Ability to cope with multiple priorities, set direction and achieve goals.

• Act independently, with a sense of urgency, and the confidence to handle a variety of challenges and fast paced environment.

• Understanding of the OH&S Act and Regulations as well as legislative and customer requirements for item specifications.

• Excellent Communication skills, both oral and written.

• Knowledge and adherence to relevant procedures and legislation.

• Ability to Travel.
