As a Brewer at Equals Brewing Company, you will be responsible for both brewing and cellaring processes, ensuring all beer and beverages meet strict quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work with a variety of products, including beer, hard seltzer, RTDs, cider, and non-alcoholic beverages. We also offer our customers product development on a 400L system, which is used for our Brewers Series experimental brewing.

What You’ll Do
The Brewer plays a key role in producing high-quality beer and beverages while maintaining efficiency and cleanliness in brewing operations. As part of the role, you will operate both the brewing and cellaring processes to ensure all products meet strict recipes, specifications, and timelines, while also working closely to ensure all products meet the required specifications.
The Brewing portion of the role involves operating the 35hL, 5-vessel DME brewhouse performing continuous wort production, including picking and properly storing grain and hops, and analyzing, harvesting and pitching yeast while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The Cellar portion of the role involves cleaning and sanitizing all brite tanks and fermenters (35-300hL), transferring beer through centrifugation, filtration, dosing/blending operations, and finishing beer in the brite cellar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the brewhouse to produce sweet wort within quality specifications
- Follow customer recipes and requirements so product is in specification throughout all stages of the process and creates solutions as problems arise
- Analyze yeast using laboratory methods including cell counting
- Monitor all in-process beer and beverages with organoleptic and analytical analysis to ensure product is fit for release and packaging
- Perform product transfers, mixing, filtering, dosing, and blending to ensure finished product is within specifications with no defects
- Clean-in-place the brewing equipment, fermenters, brite tanks, process lines and other equipment
- Maintain sanitary and clean work environments on a daily basis, working to ensure organization
- Monitor food safety quality throughout the brewing and cellaring operations and actively participate in the suggestions and improvements of department food safety procedures
- Follow all Company policies and procedures and ensure workplace health and safety and food safety at all times
- Other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- Education in Brewing, Distilling, Food Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field
- Previous brewing experience is preferred but not required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of beer and the brewing processes
- Mathematical proficiency to understand calculations for blending, brewing, dealcoholization, and more
- Ability to perform minor maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on equipment
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to process improvements
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Commitment to continuous learning and skill development
What to Expect
- Shift Pattern: Rotating shifts (days, afternoons, and midnights), including weekends and overtime based on production schedules.
- Shift Length: Varies between 6-12 hours depending on brewing needs.
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift items up to 25 kg. Standing, walking, bending, and twisting for long periods.
- Work Environment: Fast-paced with heavy machinery and loud noise levels.
