Strathroy, Ontario is one of two sites located in Canada offering softgel development and manufacturing capabilities for the Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health industries. We have a broad range of integrated formulation, manufacturing, analytical and packaging services to offer full-service turnkey solutions.

 

Position Summary

 

This position in co-operation with Automation colleagues in the Swindon UK Zydis team and global automation SME is responsible for setting the vision and implementation of plant floor automation and supervisory control systems for the new Catalent Zydis NA capital project at 687 Adair Boulevard, Strathroy, Ontario. This individual will recommend software and hardware platforms at the various levels of the information / automation system architecture from device level to PLC/SCADA to historians and cloud based IOT machine learning software. Additionally, this role will review automation design submittals from automation vendors and serve as the Catalent Automation SME for the Zydis NA project

 

The Role

  • Act as the site SME in Automation including reviewing automation design submittals from vendors and contractors for the Zydis NA capital project.

  • Establish all engineering automation standards in partnership with Catalent IT and Global Automation SME, for Cloud / AI, Historian, SCADA, EMS, BMS, Machine Level Automation (PLCs), Sensors, Motors, Drives and IO.

  • Applying state of the art techniques to develop automation solutions or improve automation processes across the site.

  • Support the development of corporate level guidance for engineering design documents, technical evaluations, and test plans for cGMP process equipment and follow GAMP 5 guidelines.

  • Develop appropriate test scripts to support the CQV activities for facility and equipment systems

  • Work with global IT and Automation SME to select and facilitate the use of data driven technologies such as Internet of Things (IOT) / Industry 4.0 and Machine Learning.

  • SME for the site on Packaging line Serialization and Vision System implementation

  • Post Zydis NA Capital project – Work with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance colleagues to execute CI projects. Independently manage or provide leadership to all phases of automation engineering projects and leading all aspects of these projects from conception, design and initial specifications through completion and turnover.

 

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s Degree—Chemical engineering, Automation, Electronics

  • 5+ years of hands-on automation engineering experience in a multi-site environment

  • Experience Implementing plant floor control networks, Building Management Systems (BMS), Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS) and process / plant historians

  • Worked on major pharma capex projects, bringing site into production [design to start up] (Preferred)

  • Strong leadership, influencing and mentoring skills

  • Proven ability to multitask

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and technical writing skills

  • Self-motivating and able to prioritize workload with little management oversight

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships cross functionally.

  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize

  • Proficiency in the use of PC and programs, particularly Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Implementing goals, objectives, and practices for efficient, cost-effective management of allocated resources.

  •  Remaining current in all aspects of cGMPs and SOPs, methods, and protocols

  • The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.

  • Use of manual dexterity is required.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, bend, or twist, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

  • There is also the potential exposure to chemicals.

 

Regular working hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM or 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
