The General Accountant is responsible for providing accurate support required to maintain the efficient operation of the working capital functions for all business units. The incumbent will also be accountable for performing a variety of accounting and related financial reporting functions, such as maintaining records of routine accounting transactions, and assisting in preparation of financial and operating reports.

Here are some of the different activities you’ll be asked to do:

  • Supporting the Accounts Payable function through receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices.
  • Verify invoices with purchase orders, including identifying and promptly resolve invoice or payment discrepancies.
  • Perform regular cheque runs and ensure the timely and accurate payment of vendor invoices.
  • Post and reconcile payments to general ledger.
  • Handle credit calls, open new accounts, release orders as required.
  • Initiate and monitor cycle counting process, including ensuring accuracy through observation. Track and report KPI’s related to cycle counts.
  • Ensure the inventory system is maintained with integrity and standardized processes are employed on a timely basis by those updating the records.
  • Support monthly and yearly close activities, including variance analyses, analytical reviews and audits.
  • Liaise with external auditors and assist with preparation for audits.

If you’ve got:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting or Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Interest in enrolment or enrolled and/or near completion of a recognized accounting designation (i.e. CPA)
  • Minimum 2 years accounting experience in a manufacturing environment beneficial but not mandatory
