    The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency. You will handle work schedules and budgets related to the design, integration and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and systems. Additionally, your team will supply daily support for operations.   This position will rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

     

    This role is done on-site at our St. Thomas, ON location and cannot be performed remotely.

     

    What You Will Do:

    General

    • Supply daily support to operations to take care of potential manufacturing issues

    • Supervise the supply of operational work instructions for operations

    • Support lean glass house initiatives through the implementation of projects

    • Support COQ reduction through involvement in problem solving teams

    • Develop and lead the technology road map for key manufacturing processes

    • Responsible for the design, development, modification and implementation of equipment and processes to aid in the overall manufacturing process

    • Ensure all equipment and systems adhere to safety requirements as well as to local, provincial, and federal industry regulations

    • Support lean manufacturing implementation through training, and hands-on involvement during kaizen events

    • Develop detailed project plans and timelines including resource and equipment needs, budgets, outside contractors, purchased equipment & materials, etc.… Proactively document, track, and communicate project status including problem areas. Ensure work is completed in the required time frame and within budgetary requirements.

    • Minimize / Eliminate sole source provider situations by identifying and qualifying alternate sources for parts and/or services

    • Develop appropriate relationships with customers, vendors, sister business units, technical and trade associates as the need arises to meet business objectives

    • Develop and maintain standardized work sheets for current and new lines and products

    • Lead the implementation and sustainment of the tooling management system

    Department Budget, Management, and Communication

    • Direct/supervise the process engineering team and ensure this team works cohesively with quality, design engineering, and production

    • Lead the tasking, work output and professional development of the manufacturing engineering team

    • Strengthen the team by identifying and hiring additional outstanding manufacturing engineers

    • Coordinate with the executive team to conduct assessments and develop recommendations for team members to be developed for leadership

    • Ensure that technical capabilities can be provided to support business objectives by recruiting and training vital personnel on all current, new and upgraded processes

    • Chair monthly communication meetings for the dept. to communicate department performance, health and safety topics and upcoming events

    • Develop, support and lead the annual department operating budget

    • Supervise and investigate budget variances for causes

     

    New Product and Existing Product Change

    • Supports new product quote and development activities through inclusion in and actions related to the APQP / Stage Gate process, process description, part costing, packaging, process FMEA and control plans

    • Work with the design engineering team to confirm manufacturability of new and existing products

    • Identify key process challenges in the design of new products and address them by investigating existing and potentially new manufacturing processes

    • Review ECB’s. Issue packaging and standard rates accordingly.

    • Kick off Internal PPAP, create work orders and coordinate the PPAP run with production supervisor.

    • Review ECR’s from the floor and make any changes if necessary.

     

    JD Edwards, DMS, PMC, Teamcentre, Label & MRP Systems

    • Lead all aspects of manufacturing work centers, rates & standards

    • Ensure Accounting Cost Quantities are accurate

    • Oversee development and sustainment of Work Instructions

    • Oversee tool layout development and sustainment

    • Provide Label System and Printer Support

    • Oversee initial creation of Tool Lists and provide support in PMC

     

     

    Who You Are:

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering

    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering management

    • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 (working knowledge of TS 16949 an asset)

    • Proven track record to build and complete project plans that achieve identified targets

    • Ability to produce reports/presentations to communicate the status of assigned projects

    • Strong leadership abilities and decision making

    • Strong background in problem solving and statistical analysis tools

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated diplomacy and integrity

    • Outstanding planning and organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines, and time management techniques

    • Experience working with equipment integrators

    • Experienced designing, developing, and implementing production equipment, production processes and production lines

    • PLC background is an asset

    • Background in Inventor 3D modelling

    • Strong work ethic

    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

    • Must be able to work with little supervision and be self-directed

    • Ready to be ‘hands on’ as needed to get the job done

    • Post- Secondary degree or diploma in engineering

    • P.Eng. designation an asset

    • Strong interpersonal communication skills

    • Experience in light to medium manufacturing industries

    • Strong background in lean manufacturing and culture

    • Appropriate PPE required in the facility

    • Active hands-on participation expected during kaizen events as required

    • Some local and international travel may be required
