Role Summary

The Health & Safety Supervisor is responsible to ensure all requirements associated with Health & Wellness (health, safety, ergonomics, & environmental management systems), claims management/WSIB benefits are met.  These will include the implementation and co-ordination of divisional policies and programs covering health and safety/ergonomic, and environmental management systems up to and including orientation, training, placement, safety, and health services. The leader directly or indirectly oversees the functions of persons completing tasks to ensure the success of the systems and programs. This position carries direct and/or indirect leadership responsibility for Health & Safety team members.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Successful completion of post-secondary education in the field of Occupational Health, Safety and/or Environmental Management and/or Ergonomics with equivalent work-related experience.

  2. Minimum three (3) years work-related technical and/or supervisory experience.

  3. Certificate of Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or working towards a definite asset.

  4. Knowledge and experience with disability management.

  5. Knowledge and familiarity with ergo assessments, budgeting, root cause analysis, and audit requirements for ISO 14001/ISO 45001 and IATF.

  6. Must be able to apply knowledge and skills to the detection and solution of general technical problems which may require: the use of measuring instruments, testing/sampling, gathering data, interpreting analysis and legislation requirement/applications, writing reports, making recommendations, and suggesting improvements.

  7. Knowledge and experience in applying Human Rights, OHSA and applicable regulations as well as WSIB policies and procedures. 

  8. Experience in Microsoft Office programs, Window and Web-based applications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Participates in department action plan to achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives in alignment with the Company’s goals.  Understands goals and willingly participates providing valuable input, ideas and suggestions to accomplish these goals.   

  2. Maintains overall responsibility of H&S/Ergonomic/Environmental programs and systems including ISO 14001, ISO 45001, WSIB Health and Safety Excellence and Corporate requirements, including policies/procedures for the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of hazards/risks/costs. 

  3. Maintain program relationships to support and/or meet Magna Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental Audit minimum scores.

  4. Promotes health & safety/environmental/claims and best practices/compliance throughout the facility. 

  5. Prepares and monitors budgets for HSE aspects to achieve departmental targets and goals, within budgeted guidelines.

  6. Oversee the coordination of external services for monthly/annual and bi-annual sampling/testing/assessments and shared as required (i.e., air and noise sampling, air emission, waste disposal, waste water, hearing conservation program, FL medicals, etc.).

  7. Analyzes/updates to Health & Safety/Ergonomic/Environmental related statistics/KPI's and makes recommendations as required. Reports management system performances to top management for review including recommendations for improvement.

  8. Manages health and safety/environmental legislative compliance and acts as a liaison with government agencies and corporate in the interest of the company’s health and safety affairs.  Leads in the MOL/MOE visits, workplace inspections and investigations.  Ensures and maintains accurate records to provide documentation and accountability in support of findings and conclusions.  

  9. Ensures team prepares for internal and external audits related to H&S/Ergonomics/Environmental, MAFACT & IATF, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 including Management Review of audits.
