Intern - Health & Safety

Summary of Duties:

We are seeking a motivated Health and Safety Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in conducting job demands analysis and ergonomic assessments for various positions across the City of London. The intern will work closely with our Health and Safety team to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

Work Performed:

  • Job Demands Analysis:
    • Conduct comprehensive job demands analysis for various positions, focusing on both physical and cognitive demands.
    • Observe job tasks, interview employees, and document findings.
  • Ergonomic Assessments:
    • Perform ergonomic assessments to identify potential risks and recommend improvements.
    • Evaluate workstations, tools, and equipment to ensure they meet ergonomic standards.
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
    • Gather and analyze data related to job demands and ergonomic assessments.
    • Create detailed reports.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with various departments to understand job roles and requirements.
    • Provide support and recommendations to improve workplace safety and ergonomics.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate records of assessments, analyses, and recommendations.

Experience:

Recent graduate of a relevant postsecondary program (Kinesiology, Ergonomics).

Strong analytical and observational skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Foundational knowledge of ergonomic principles.

Awareness of H&S act and regulations.

Qualifications:

Eligibility under the City of London Internship Program as follows (see below):

 

MUST MEET CRITERIA AS EITHER A NEW IMMIGRANT, PERSON WITH A SELF-DECLARED DISABILITY, INDIGENOUS PERSON, RACIALIZED PERSON/VISIBLE MINORITY, OR A RECENT LOCAL POST-SECONDARY GRADUATE.

 

New immigrant:

  • Persons who have gained permanent residency status and/or naturalized citizenship status; having arrived in Canada 0 – 5 years.
  • Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
  • English benchmark level 6 or above
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada

OR

Person with a self-declared disability which poses employment barriers:

  • Persons who identify as having one or more disabilities. City of London follows the definition of Disability as allowed under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

OR

Indigenous Persons:

  • Person who identifies as Aboriginal, First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and/or Indian.

OR

Racialized Persons/Visible Minorities:

  • Persons, other than Indigenous persons, who are non-Caucasian in race. Also, persons who have racial meanings attributed to them as a group in ways that negatively impacts their work and social life.

OR

Recent local post-secondary graduate:

  • City of London residents currently residing or having left London within the last year ONLY and who have graduated from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Limited work experience in their chosen field.

Compensation & Other Information:

$22.44/hour

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 15 weeks position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.

These hours of work are subject to change.
