Various Metal Shop Positions

Hours: Monday to Thursday – afternoon shift: 4:15 pm to 2:30 am
Hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday – weekend shift: 6:00 am to 6:30 pm

Machine Operator – Operation of machines
(punch, brake, drill presses, grinders, spot welders, to produce component parts for units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting up, monitoring and operating several metal shop fabricating machines in the manufacture of component ventilation parts in accordance with precise specifications and tolerances as required in the production of a variety of air quality units
  • Performing machine set up, routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment and machinery including maintaining proper levels of oil and grease and otherwise ensuring the good running order of machinery; assist in the diagnosis of major machine breakdowns for referral and corrective action by the supervisor or manager
  • Responsible for routine inspection of production to ensure component parts are produced according to required specifications and acceptable precision tolerances
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate production run records and documentation
  • Ensure the fabricated components are transferred to proper assembler
  • Cleaning immediate work area and ensuring that proper health and safety standards and procedures are followed
  • As requested, assist other operators in the set up and operation of machines
  • Assist in the training of new and part-time production workers

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • High attention to detail is essential with ability to work independently with minimal supervision Work involves a high degree of visual attention and concentration with constant attention to detail when operating equipment and assembling the products
  • Exposed to dirty/dusty, hot/cold, noisy, smelly, oily, and greasy conditions and confined work area
  • Must be organized, proactive and maintain a positive attitude in the workplace
  • Manual dexterity, speed, accuracy and hand-eye coordination is essential to maximize production and minimize waste materials and spoiled units of production
  • Good reading, writing, computational and diagnostic abilities are required in set up of machines, calculating appropriate product dimensions within acceptable tolerances
  • Must have good knowledge of all standard measuring equipment and devices (such as micrometers, vernier caliper and various gauges), electronic monitors
  • Must be knowledgeable of proper safety standards and procedures and be proficient in the safe operation of production machines, fork lifts and tow motors
  • Must be able to cooperate and work effectively with others to ensure efficient and smooth operations
  • 2 years’ experience in manufacturing environment with machine operation experience
  • A physically demanding job as considerable standing or sitting, bending, pulling, twisting, pushing, grasping, cutting, welding is required in the assembly line operations; the pace is controlled largely by equipment and the flow of materials (depending on length of production run, can involve many set ups per day involving several hours each)
  • Must be able to respond to tight production deadlines during regular and peak periods and to last minute demands and requirements; many short-term competing deadlines
  • Many tedious and repetitious activities and movements requiring constant attention to detail and, depending upon specific duties, often involves considerable standing in one spot
  • Successful completion of references and background check
