SMT Technician

OES Inc is seeking an SMT Technician to join the team. Working with surface mount technology to ensure circuit boards and other devices using electronic circuits are assembled correctly ensuring maximum output and minimal quality issues. 
 

Summary of Major Accountabilities: 

  • Load feeders according to setup sheet, Verify components on job cart. 
  • Responsible for running the SMT lines and SMT machine 
  • Positions PCBs on machine bed holding fixtures, starts machine, and monitors machine operation 
  • Perform parts taping and reeling when required. 
  • Verify board assembly prior to reflow. 
  • Ensure the parts are installed on the board as per BOM and View Station. 
  • Ensure workmanship conforms to IPC 610 Standards. 
  • Makes minor machine adjustments such as placement of parts, measurement of components and change or correct package size, clears machine jams.  
  • Conduct in-process inspection and inspect all boards visually after processing on the machines 
  • Perform quality inspection with the aid of Job related documents and BOM 
  • Handle and store materials/boards using ESD guidelines. 
  • Work with hand tools for soldering, crimping and hardware installation 
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout production. 
  • Perform daily maintenance of SMT equipment and verify all processes are performed to the documentation. 
  • Report all issues to QA Manager and direct Supervisor and ensure housekeeping is maintained at all times. 

Support team and organizational goals: 

  • Attend and participate in daily huddles, Electronic Manufacturing and Staff meetings as required 
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and contribute to a safe work environment 
  • Perform all duties in accordance with health and safety work requirements and processes 
  • Participate in Internal and External Audit as part of OES Quality Management Systems.  
  • Provide back-up support to other Production roles as required. 
  • Other related duties as assigned and communicated by the Production Manager 

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) 

  • High School diploma  
  • Basic knowledge of Electronics. 
  • Ability to use hand tools for soldering, crimping and hardware installation. 
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various assembly processes 
  • Knowledge of set-ups, programming and adjustments an asset 
  • knowledge of electronic assemblies including through hole and SMT components, drawings and BOMS 
  • Multitasking and prioritization skills. 
  • Ability to read production documentation and instructions. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate effectively with staff and other departments, in multiple formats, including team meetings. 
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and JobBoss. 
  • Knowledge of OES Quality Management Systems, ISO 9000, and other SOP’s. 

 

Technical Skills 

  • IPC Soldering Standard 
  • Knowledge of related Work Instructions 
  • Ability to runSMT, Pick & Place and reflow ovens 
  • Ability to read production documentation and instructions. 
  • Usage of different hand tools 
  • Knowledge of the internal production software 
  • Basic Knowledge of Microsoft suite 
  • Lean manufacturing principles 

Cognitive and Physical Demands 

  • Ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools  
  • Moderately repetitive tasks 
  • Moderate physical effort which may include (but is not limited to) the following: 
  • Sitting for periods of 3 hours or longer 
  • Standing for periods of 2 hours or longer   
  • Ongoing hand-eye coordination 
  • Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 25 lbs.  
  • Ability to work flexible shift(s) and overtime work as required 
  • May works near moving Machines  
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects; use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time 
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination 
  • Hazards associated with the industry 
  • Use of personal protective equipment is required 
  • May be exposed to dust, hazardous chemicals, and moderate levels of noise 
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance
