Job Title: Manufacturing Design Engineer – Defence Protection Systems
Location: London ON Canada + potential travel to UK and USA
Hours: 40 hrs per week (Mon to Fri) based on-site with potential hybrid working available
Vacancy Type: Full-time, Permanent and Hybrid 
Salary: $75,000 - $95,000 CDN (subject to experience) + Bonuses + Benefits

In this role, you’ll contribute to the development of cutting-edge protection systems used by Canada’s Military and Law Enforcement personnel. JOB DUTIES
  1. Generating designs for new and next generation products, including, CAD, Material selection, defining processing parameters, tooling, and drafting.
  2. Support prototype and production component manufacture by providing schematics, CNC programming, manufacturing documentation / guidelines, hands on manufacturing support and training.
  3. Lead manufacturing readiness reviews including facilities specification and implementation, process design and work balance, standard ops, and manufacturing instruction creation, PFMEA completion, process development and training.
  4. Support the ongoing Process Engineering requirements of established manufacturing processes including process related problem resolution and process.
  5. Support of design reviews to ensure that DFM principles are considered throughout the development cycle.
  6. Undertake problem solving of design and product issues to resolve functional issues as they arise throughout the development and service life cycle.
  7. Work with tooling and equipment suppliers to ensure right first-time delivery and support project deadlines.
  8. Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and support safe, healthy, and environmentally sound working practices within the Manufacturing Engineering team.
  9. Maintain the accuracy of engineering released BOMs.
  10. Work to KPI's in the Manufacturing Engineering team and manage performance and related problem solving.

CRITICAL OUTPUTS AND ACHIEVEMENT REQUIRED

 
  • Successful launch of new products on time, to cost, and on schedule.
  • Creation, checking and reviewing of CAD and detailed designs.
  • Support first off and prototype builds as well as transitions into full production.

EXPERIENCE

Essential
  • Degree or equivalent (i.e. diploma or experience) in Manufacturing Engineering or similar discipline.
  • Experience working in a variety of operational environments in a relevant manufacturing industry.
  • Understanding of Lean concepts and methodologies with an ability to effectively implement them.
  • Experience working on design and development projects, inception to launch, within an engineer to order technical environment.
  • Proficient with the use of 3D CAD modelling and design software.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, ideally to automotive / defence requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to team projects.
  • Proficient user of MS office software.
  • Experience with welding, machining and fabrication of steel and aluminium.
  • Tooling design and design for manufacturability.
  • Jig and Fixture Design for welding, assembly, and machining.
  • Canadian citizen or valid work permit.

Desirable
 
  • Experience working with composite materials and knowledge of composite manufacturing processes (infusion, compression moulding, etc).
  • Familiar with configuration control and change management processes
  • Knowledge of ballistic steel properties and manufacturing best practices.
  • Experienced in using PTC Creo and Windchill PDM.
  • Experience using practical problem-solving methodologies (5 whys, ishikawa, 8D, etc.)
