Controller

We are seeking a Controller who is aspiring to reach their potential in business. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Controller will be an integral part of the Business Intelligence team reporting, analysis, and compliance.  

 

Environment 

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end process of preparing and delivering accurate financial statements, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment, accuracy, and compliance. The Controller will also develop and enhance procedures, internal controls, and processes to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of financial operations. 

 

How you will make an IMPACT 

  • Manage the month end accounting process of the J-AAR group of companies, which includes the preparation and posting of month end journal entries, reviewing project percentage of completion, assessing inventory adjustments, preparation/ review of account reconciliations, oversight of intercompany reconciliations, and reviewing transactions for accuracy 
  • Work closely with operations as a trusted financial expert on various subject matters, ensuring the proper application of the accounting treatment  
  • Collaborate with project managers and divisional leaders to prepare and analyze project percentage of completion  
  • Preparation of financial statements on a monthly basis  
  • Analysis of the financial results by division providing insight into trends and variances 
  • Work alongside the BI leadership team on various ad-hoc projects or reporting requests as required 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, enhanced efficiency, improved controls, etc., and drive those improvements to advance operational excellence 
  • Lead the year-end external audit, including the preparation of audit working papers, preparation of financial statements and financial statement notes, liaising with the external auditors 
  • Oversee any required reporting or filing to the CRA, and lead any audits as required 

 

How you WOW us 

  • CPA designation 
  • Minimum 5+ years professional experience, including public accounting firm experience  
  • Extensive knowledge of ASPE, and familiarity with construction industry financial practices and project-based accounting  
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and delivery of high-quality work 
  • Excellent communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally to deliver results 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-company environment, while adhering to deadlines 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP Systems
