Job Summary:
Airia Brands Inc. is seeking a highly self-driven, motivated individual to join our team as a Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator. In this role, you will be responsible for the advancement of HSE at Airia, to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for all employees and stakeholders and to minimize any impacts to the environment. The HSEC will provide subject matter expertise on HSE matters and manage and/or provide oversight for all HSE related activities. Further, the HSE Coordinator will
represent Airia on all aspects of HSE with any external parties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Policy Procedure Programs
- Identify/develop and lead the implementation of programs directed to improve HSE
- Manage and advance the HSE Management System
- Develop internal policies and procedures, as required to: advance the HSEMS, ensure compliance with applicable legal legislation, etc.
- Ensure site alignment with corporate initiatives
- Manage Airia’s return to work program, modified work and any WSIB related claims
- Validate and ensure that HSE policies are effectively implemented and followed
- Foster the development of a culture that prioritizes safety
- Lead sustainability and the carbon footprint reduction initiatives
HSE Reporting
- Collect, maintain and monitor all HSE related statistics for identified HSE KPI’s
- Conduct HSE data analysis to identify trends and develop and oversee the implementation of any corrective actions required to improve HSE
- Maintain all HSE data (i.e. incidents, sustainability, etc.) as may be required by stakeholders and/or regulatory bodies
- Ensure that all information, reports and data required by regulatory bodies and other stakeholders is provided in a timely fashion (i.e. OHSA, WSIB, Ops Reviews, etc.)
JHSC Committee
- Lead the activities of the JHSC, including perioding meetings, inspections, recommendations, etc.
- Maintain the composition and development of the JHSC in accordance with legislated guidelines and sufficient to achieve Airia’s HSE objectives and support internal programs
- Ensure that JHSC meetings, activities and recommendations are well documented, and that outstanding issues and/or recommendations are brought to closure
Training & Orientation
- Ensure that HSE training needs are identified & training is being provided to employees, as applicable
- Conduct all new hire, temporary employee HSE orientations and annual safety training
- Arrange for external training by subject matter experts, as required
Hazard Identification/Assessments
- Collaborate with department leaders to ensure the identification of safety hazards and facilitate the same by all Airia employees
- Conduct job safety analysis
Legal & Legislative
- Stay abreast of applicable HSE legislative requirements and ensure Airia’s compliance with same
- Maintain and in-depth knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulations
Miscellaneous
- Oversee fire, security and evacuation systems to ensure their effectiveness
- All other duties assigned
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- In depth knowledge of applicable legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, OHSA Act and
Regulation, Ontario Human Rights Code, WHMIS - Postsecondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources Management or related field
- Minimum 3 years of solid H&S coordination
- General HR experience a definite asset
- Must complete WSIB’s Certification Part One & Part Two in the manufacturing sector
- Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office
- Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis preferred
- Working knowledge of WSIB claims management
- Proven experience as safety coordinator or similar role
- Experience in reporting and developing policies
- Experience in implementing OHSA training programs
- Experience in a manufacturing facility preferred
