Technology Manager - Vision and Geometrics

 

Description

Technology Managers are responsible for driving the development and execution of specific technologies at BOS. Technology Managers will interface with senior level management and will work closely with sales, engineering, manufacturing, project management, and key customers.

The Technology Manager – Vision & Geometrics, is responsible for the development, quoting, sales, and execution/integration of advanced vision and geometrics solutions and pre-engineered products for quality inspection at BOS (“the Technology”). Other emerging technologies may also be assigned as opportunities arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Execution

  • For projects primarily scoped around the technology, act as the project and technical lead, with project management support for timeline development, project setup, conflict management support, customer support, resource management support, and administration
    • Lead project kickoffs, concept reviews, and commissioning to ensure the project team successfully executes the Technology on budget, in scope, and on time
  • For projects involving the Technology as a sub-part of a larger project, act as the technical lead (Systems Engineer)
    • Ensure the project team successfully executes the aspects of the project related to the Technology on budget, in scope, and on time
    • Provide regular updates to project management for project status purposes
  • Collaborate with SCM to ensure purchased for the Technology are executed on time and on budget
  • Lead risk assessments and root cause problem solving of technical issues in collaboration with the project team to close issues to successfully execute the Technology
  • Support development of documentation and lead training as required to maximize customer satisfaction with the Technology

 

Technical Sales

  • Primary contact at BOS for the Technology, including leading presentations and demonstrations of BOS’ capabilities and building new and ongoing customer relationships
  • Lead the development of strategic partnerships to help BOS achieve its goals and develop the Technology
  • Follow the quoting process to create professionally packaged quotations to sell the Technology
  • Review and analyze customer documents (including requests for quotes, scopes of work, and equipment specifications/standards), lead site visits/reviews for applications, and review product designs and past BOS history of equipment to ensure concept is optimized and effective, meeting customer specifications and expectations
  • Coordinate and communicate with customer technical counterparts to gain understanding and relationship with key influencers
  • Identify key project components to be sourced by BOS and develop requests for quotes to identify technical capabilities and costs directly from suppliers
  • Lead collaboration with engineering and manufacturing to complete quotations, including any testing, simulations, and feasibility studies to validate concepts for feasibility and functionality
  • Deliver professional sales presentations both internally and externally to explain concept and validate budget
  • Occasionally tour customers/prospects through BOS
  • Attend sales and new business meetings to discuss active priorities and future opportunities (“quoting pipeline”)
  • Update of CRM database for all assigned opportunities to ensure data is accurate for management decision-making, including entering updates for all customer interactions

 

Research & Development, Training, Marketing Support

  • Maintain general knowledge of automated products and their applications
  • Continuous research of new technologies to ensure the customers are provided with the best possible concept
  • Design experiments and perform data analysis to prove-out technology and evaluate findings to develop new processes
  • Support annual development of the budget and sales targets for the Technology, including setting goals for pre-engineered products
  • Identify and apply for internal funding to increase the Technology budget to develop applicable new technologies
  • Identify and apply for grants and 3rd party funding to increase the Technology budget to develop applicable new technologies
  • Support Marketing with developing technical content and multimedia as necessary to help develop pre-engineered products and generate solution sheets to grow sales revenue and profitability from the Technology
  • Support and help lead tradeshow initiatives
  • Identify and schedule opportunities to train and mentor BOS colleagues to improve the company’s ability to successfully sell and execute the Technology, and to succession plan this role
  • R&D outside of the given/assigned Technology at the discretion of company needs and opportunity as directed by senior management

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in engineering is required, with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the custom automation and/or manufacturing industry with a specialty in quality inspection applications that deploy vision and/or geometric technology in a factory production environment
    • The ideal candidate has a blend of mechatronics and software engineering in their background
    • Additional education or experience in business with an understanding of operational budgets and profit margins would be a strong asset
  • Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with FANUC (3DL, iRVision) and Cognex (Deep Learning/ViDi, VisionPro, Designer, Insight Platform) hardware and software as well as Creaform scanning and Polyworks would be a strong asset
  • Knowledge and experience with C# programming and automating machine or deep learning methodologies would be a strong asset
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams would be an asset
  • Prior experience with an automation integrator would be an asset
  • Automotive manufacturing experience would be an asset
