General Description:


Reporting to the Director, IT Infrastructure, the Infrastructure Administrator (IA) position holds responsibility for the implementation of technologies and ongoing maintenance of the data centre. The technologies include but are not limited to servers both Microsoft and Linux, iSeries, storage, server virtualization, data communications, networking, security, operating systems, network monitoring, specific applications, Office 365 and other cloud-based solutions. Further, the IA will act as an escalation path for IT Operations staff in support of field equipment such as switches, client computers and other devices.
This position is one within a 7/24, cross-trained team capable of managing a variety of technologies. The position requires a working knowledge of storage arrays, Microsoft technologies, virtualization, networking, and security devices. The position requires some travel and after-hours work.


Key Accountabilities
  • Act as a point of escalation for IT Operations and working with the requestor Investigate and resolve issues.
  • Perform patches and upgrades throughout the data centre and its components. Support IT Operations staff in their effort to apply software upgrades and operating security patches.
  • Co-ordinate with outside vendors for hardware service and application support.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of active directory, group policies, scripting, compliance, and security with respect to both on-premises and cloud-based technologies.
  • Participate in the configuration, design and troubleshooting of servers, storage, virtualization, operating systems and applications
  • Participates in the management and maintenance of the corporate Office 365 environment including Exchange, Teams, Share point, One Drive and the security and compliance of this environment.
  • Maintain and ensure data centres and associated wiring closets are clean, documented and are complete in terms of power, security, and performance.
  • Participate with IT management, end users and vendors to ensure service levels are achieved and/or exceeded.
  • Participates in the development of processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and service levels. Provides recommendations of network, software hardware improvements and evaluates effectiveness of services provided for the benefit of the enterprise & its end users.
  • Provides input into the technology plan for the organization and ensures that plans for their assigned technology integrate effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure.
  • Focus on learning new skills relating to the maintenance and advancing of the company’s infrastructure environment.
  • Travel as required throughout Canada and the ability to work in a 7/24 environment.
  • Other duties as required.

Internal Relationship:
 
  • All departments within the enterprise with respect to support of Information Technology.

External Relationship:
 
  • Liaison with outside vendors and maintenance providers as required.
Working Conditions:


The job incumbent is required to operate and execute their assignments and duties under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Frequent overtime work and flexibility to work during unusual hours is expected. Overnight travel is occasional; however, travel requirements may increase during project implementations or acquisition integration. Physical environment is generally pleasant, while moderate physical effort is expected.

  • Remote and off hours work is required
Qualifications:
  • Intermediate working knowledge demonstrated in at least two of the following; enterprise storage, virtualization, networking, security, compliance, Microsoft technologies with focus on Active Directory, Group Policy, permissions and security, Office 365, Share point, & Teams.
  • Good understanding of enterprise server operations best practices.
  • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Organized and able to create, update and maintain documentation on technology, operation, procedures, and policies.
