Position Summary:
 

Reporting directly to the President, Masco Canada, the Vice President, Product Engineering & Program Management is responsible for the development and delivery of our strategic innovation pipeline and plan to achieve our Product Strategy for profitable growth.  As a dynamic leader, they are responsible for driving the product development process from initial design concept through pre-production release.  Under their leadership, the Product Development team will translate product/service opportunities from the product roadmap into an exceptional customer experience as well as transform product designs into actual working products or prototypes for manufacturing to produce on scale.  As a key role on the executive team, they lead the organization in research for new products, product enhancements and product redesign to deliver breakthrough innovation and next generation transformative solutions.  
Specific responsibilities include:
    • Develop technical strategy & roadmap and implement plan to enable product strategy
    • Lead and enable a high performance team through cross functional collaboration, inspiring, recruiting, developing and retaining talent, driving accountability for achievement of results, removing barriers and obstacles, facilitating change, and providing ongoing coaching, feedback and development
    • Drive financial results by providing product solutions for business opportunities that are differentiated from the market and unique to our brands
    • Deliver multi-year innovation pipeline development for new & existing products / platforms
    • Lead disruptive innovation both internally &/or with external partners to deliver next generation of transformative platforms, products &/or solutions
    • Evaluate the potential and practicality of products in development, including make/buy analysis to ensure profitable growth
    • Enhance the profitability of our products by either reducing cost or adding value with features and functionality enhancements through continuous improvement initiatives after product launches
    • Ensure execution excellence through effective process standardization / methodology & program management including oversight of the Stage Gate Process
    • Oversees implementation of design and/or manufacturing changes to existing products based on supplier specifications, manufacturing requirements, quality improvement initiatives
    • Tests products to ensure established safety, accurate and efficient employee work performance standards are met
    • Responsible for ensuring products we sell are in compliance with company standards, rules and regulations (laws) formulated for our products
    • Own sourcing and selection of outsourcing vendors and ongoing management of performance
    • Manage patent portfolio and intellectual property strategy including identification and selection of external partners and manufacturing contractors
    • Stays current on cutting edge research & development in direct & adjacent areas of expertise which have impact
    • Identify gaps in the product development systems, and where necessary, develop processes and infrastructure to mitigate gaps
    • Coordinate with other Masco business units on product/technology changes
Requirements:
Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science; Master’s &/or MBA preferred
Professional & Personal
    • Minimum of 10 years’ product development experience in a manufacturing environment typically gained through progressively responsible positions.
    • Experienced in the areas of product development, strategic planning, market management, innovation process and large-scale project management
    • Deep technical expertise/insights of our technologies and core competencies
    • Strategic thinker with excellent judgement and business sense
    • Sense of urgency to deliver new capabilities to market and can prioritize multiple strategic priorities
    • Strong leadership development capabilities with ability to build great cross-functional teams including inspiring, attracting, selecting, developing and retaining top talent
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Accuracy and attention to detail a must
    • Positive attitude and strong work ethics
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer applications, with above average Excel skills
