Tooling Engineer

This is an in-person position located in Strathroy, ON.

Education and Personal Competencies

  • A minimum of 5 years' of experience as a tool designer
  • Project Manager with tooling Experience
  • Tool and Die Skilled Trades License
  • Thorough knowledge of theoretical and practical phases of tool design and tool making with general knowledge of metals, alloys, heat treating and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to cope with multiple priorities, set direction and achieve goals
  • Act independently, with a sense of urgency, and the confidence to handle a variety of challenges and a fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Major Responsibilities of Position

Project Management:

  • Responsible for design of tools and assist quality with gauges.
  • Using AutoCAD to analyze and verify customer and supplier tooling designs.
  • Co-operate with inside and outside tool operations to ensure requirements are met.
  • Assisting in selecting outside tool services as required.
  • Performing dimensional analysis and organizing progression of cast and trim tools through use of layout department and tool source to meet customers’ PPAP requirements.
  • Ensuring all tooling drawings are up to date and filed at MPD through system support.
  • Appropriately designing and maintaining DCM shot end and closing end die components (shot sleeve, ejector bars).
  • Organize die sample runs.
  • Any tooling changes will need to be reported to CFD for final Approval.
  • Creating and maintaining timelines on all programs with new tools.
  • Weekly Tooling Status Updates
  • Tracking and maintaining shots on cast and trim tools for replacement tooling needs.
  • Provide feedback on progressions of all dies and any changes made so models can be updated

Preventative Maintenance / Continuous Improvement:

  • Tracking and maintaining preventative maintenance program on production cast and trim tools.
  • Attending last off meetings and documenting repairs and improvements

Assisting in expenditures:

  • Acquiring competitive quotes from tool sources on engineering changes and replacement tools.
  • Assist in ordering material and equipment.
  • Organize and maintain all costing information on TMO's and plant accounts assign.
  • Ensuring tool delivery schedules and tool cost estimates are met while also achieving the customer's quality requirements.
  • Gating Calculations for New and current processes

Teamwork:

  • Working in conjunction with Product and Quality Engineering, customers, production personnel, outside tool services and sales, on designs, manufacturing tooling
  • Planning tool requirements with product engineers, tool & die makers, and customers.
  • Working together with customers and internal technical personnel in determining product tolerances and requirements to recommend appropriate tooling.
  • Reporting any tooling changes to CFD for approvals.
  • Review of new tooling standards and provide feedback.
  • Tooling Disposition Workflow: Organize Plex workflows and Paperwork for scrap tooling.
  • Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise.
  • Possibility of International Travel.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00-$76,000.00 per year
